R.I.P. VI and Its Many Perils!

Carl over at Stainless Steel Droppings hosts two very popular challenges every year. Once Upon a Time in the spring, and now RIP in the fall. Readers, you know it's impossible to resist either one of them. It's pretty much a book blogger requirement! :) And so this is me joining (finally... I'm a little late) RIP for the fifth time (I think I missed the first year of this, that's because I was clueless to this above mentioned book blogging requirement!)

I love ALL the perils, but I'm choosing three:

Peril the First which suggests I read four books from the genre list, and includes:

Dark Fantasy.

Here's what I hope to get to:

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz (currently reading and boy is it creepy!)
Supernaturally by Kiersten White
Under the Dome by Stephen King
Kiss Me Kill Me by Lauren Hendersen

and a carry over from last year:
An Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice
(some year I'll get to this one.  Anyone want to read it with me and thus actually make me get to it?)

.... and any others that I stumble upon and decide to suddenly read that fit the bill!

Peril on the Screen, which I'm sort of already doing with my current Dr. Who addiction. That one counts right? But I'd love to watch some old gothic classic, and I need suggestions. Please, tell me what I'd love!

And finally,

Peril of the Group Read, because Jenny and I plan to read Under the Dome together, which is the beginning of a group at least, right? And we'd love for anyone interested to join us. If we get some takers, we'll plan and organize it a bit even! So let us know! I hope to start this by October at least. Maybe sooner depending on... life and such.

So everyone, be sure to head on over and join up. And do let me know if you want to read one or more of these books with me!

  1. If you wait until October, I will read Interview with a vampire with you... I am pretty sure I own it and if not it is easy to acquire. I actually started it years ago, but never finished it... I don't remember hating it, so I assume it was just bad timing.

  2. Great to have you in again this year. 5 times! Wow!

And nah, I wouldn't consider these events I host a book blogging requirement. Having fun reading, THAT is a book blogging requirement. ;)

  3. I'm glad you're liking Odd Thomas and finding it sufficiently creepy. I would love to do this challenge but I sorta already have my fall schedule all worked out and don't know where I could squish in any more books. Sigh, maybe I'll go look at the challenges and go super easy.

  4. Wow this challenge sounds like a blast! Best of luck!

  5. Dracula was on my list last year and I want to make myself read it this time around. Good luck with yours.

  6. Interview with a Vampire was on my list last year too. It isn't officially on the list this year but is always a contender!

  7. I might have to join this challenge! And Odd Thomas is one of my all time favorite literary characters and I'm so excited about the movie they're making of it. Hopefully they don't screw it up too much! ;)

  8. Please do join Kate. There is a one book option as well so there is no large quota pressure but still all the fun of taking part! :)

  9. Every year, I try to resist Carl's fun challenges. Every year, I fail. *Sigh* He just makes these challenges way too inviting!

  10. Kailana: Okay, yes, I won't get to it until then anyway. We'll see if I can do both it and Under the Dome at the same time!

Carl: Actually, now that I really think about it, it is probably just the fourth time. I think I hadn't quite started blogging when you did the first one. And I know YOU don't consider these challenges a requirement, but lots of us feel they are just part of the whole blogging experience! Mostly because it does accomplish the goal you have in mind, to have FUN. Thanks for doing them... really.

Jenny: I'm really into Odd right now. The suspense is driving me crazy!

    Amused: A blast it is!

Marce: Love Dracula... I hope you get to it!

Reviews: I know! I think I'm a little scared of it, so I keep putting it off and off and off.

Kate: Yes, do join! An Odd Thomas movie? How fun will that be!

Susan: Resistance is futile, seriously. You, we all should, just plan to include it into our blogging schedule every year.

  11. For a movie I would suggest The Haunting with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom (not the hokey remake of a few years ago). I consider it the scariest movie I have ever seen. There is no blood or gore, no knives or hatchets or chainsaws, and no monsters...except the house itself.

  12. Thank you. Thank you for reminding me about this! I've been so out of it this summer that I almost forgot. Love your list!
