Sunday Salon: Book Stacks

I've got some books to read!

The books below are from the library. I'm half way through The Iron King now and it's... okay. I'm thinking it's a cross between Alice in Wonderland, The Chronicles of Narnia with plot similarities to Need and Captivate. Interesting. But it's not blowing me away or anything.

I tried Captain Wentworths's Diary, but it was just sorta weird and I can't decide to give it a chance or give it up. (Oh, Wentworth.... hmmm... it just clicked.... I wonder if my newest celebrity crush Wentworth Miller was named after a certain Jane Austen character! Coolness!)

I WILL read Children of God because it's going to be a read along this month. Want to read along? Heather will have the details up on her blog in the next day or so.

Okay, so this past week or so I got a lot in the mail... a lot for me anyway. ( I know some of you get this much in a day, but seriously, I don't want that problem!!!) Anyway, you can see that stack below. I'm anxious to get to all of these. And I'm also curious which ones you got and are planning to review also.

Of course, then there're the ones that are just hanging out waiting for a turn. A turn that seems to never come. Here's the stack that I hope to get to sooner than later.

So, what should I grab first? Any of them your very favorites that you think I shouldn't wait for even another minute?

  1. Happy Sunday Salon! I was struck by your last stack of books patiently waiting their turn. I have most of those waiting to be read as well. EAT, PRAY, LOVE is a good, fun summer read that is, at the moment, making me ache for Italy.

And I once got a couple hundred pages into BLEAK HOUSE and petered out. Maybe we should read it together this winter!

Do you know when the Utah book blogger summer bash will be? I am planning a short weekend trip in the next few weeks, and I'll schedule around the bash if I can. Also, I'd love to help, if you need anything.

  4. The Glass Castle is a great read. I'm a fan of Eat, Pray, Love, but it tends to be pretty polarizing - worth reading in order to make up your mind about it, at any rate.

Glad you'll be part of the Children of God read-along!

  5. I'm sad to say I haven't read any of the books on any of your stacks though I've got a bunch of them on *my* stacks! LOL.

I've got several of the same books for review that you've got - The Trouble With Half a Moon and A Small Death in the Great Glen as well as copies of Matched and The Replacement that I got at BEA. I want to read and review all of them (plus the zillion more BEA books and assorted other review commitments piling up around me...), but I'm definitely going to have some hard choices to make about what ones I'll get to sooner and which ones I'll get to (possibly much) later!

And, can I say, that even despite its ginormousity, I've definitely got the green monster over Fall of Giants. Wouldn't mind having that in my hulking pile of tough decisions... ;-)

  6. Ah--choices, choices. Well, I love Dickens and Doctorow but then my son's friend has been hard-selling me on Ken Follett this week so I don't even know which I'd pick from those!

  7. I'd be intrigued to see what you thought of The Glass Castle! I found it fascinating when I read it last year :)

  9. I am so jealous you got a copy of Matched! I really liked the Iron King for some reason. Probably one of my favorite YA's this year.:)

  10. Jessica: A read along for Bleak House! Okay... let's do it.

Utah Blogger party... Aug. 28. I hope you can come!

Amanda: That's three for a read along for Bleak House! Should we do it? When?

Laurel: I hope I get to it soon.

Florinda: Yes, I do need to read EPL just so I can decide what I think. Looking forward to the read along!

Megan: Not one of them? Wow... you need to get busy!! :) The Fall of Giants is pretty scary looking, huh. I will look forward to your reviews on some of these books.

Lisa: Was he trying to get you to read Pillars of the Earth? It's a great one!

Aumsed: Sounds like I need to bump that one up higher on my list.

Chantele: Yes, I'm excited about Matched. It remains to be seen what my thoughts on The Iron King will be.

  11. I see you have Conspiracy of Kings, so I guess my question from my reply to you on my blog has been answered. :D
I am really liking her stories.

I have The Glass Castle sitting on my piano waiting for its reading turn. I tried reading Eat, Pray, Love but just could not get past the mid-way point. I have been told time and time again that I should give that book another go. I would be interested in knowing what you think of the read...if you ever get to reading it. :)

So you know, I am going to be internet free this coming week...starting monday morning...for a week, or a bit more. Wanted to let you know, if I don't respond to any replies, and whatnot.

  12. So glad you'll be joining me for CHILDREN OF GOD - I can't wait to revisit Rahkat (oh, and details are posted on my blog today!).

I'm also a fan of BLEAK HOUSE. I'm planning to download the audio version soon, so let me know if you want to do a buddy read for that one.

  13. The Glass Castle is really good, particularly if you're a fan of memoirs! It's well-written, and her life was really quite fascinating.

  14. Ibeeeg: I actually started EPL last night and enjoyed the writing style a lot. So we'll see.

Enjoy your week away from the computer!

Heather: You will join us for a read along of Bleak House too? Yey! Now, we just need to figure out when. It's just so huge!

opinionsofawolf: I think you've all talked me into it, I will read that one soon!

  16. Without question, The Glass Castle.

  17. Oh, I'm going to have to borrow your copy of Matched this fall! I was not so fortunate :( But, I did get Nightshade. I should encourage you to read Conspiracy of Kings, but since I've yet to reread the series, it's a bit hypocritical.
