Review: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

Book: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
Genre: YA Dystopian
Rating: A
For: Fun
From: Christmas 2010 Loot :)

It seems like I read on someone's blog (I think it was Susan at Bloggin' 'bout Books) that this was her most favorite book of the year! So I knew I needed to get to it fast, so in my year end reading blitz, I managed to fit this one in, even though it's not a small book. It was, however, a quick one because it's not put down sort. It reminded me of Hunger Games a little that way, though not in story or content.

This story takes place in two different worlds, or environments. The prison, called Incarceron, and the world that created the prison. In THAT world, time has gone backwards because those in charge decided that it was better to live like days of old. So technology is against the law. They live like they are in the Victorian time period or so. And all appears blissful and tranquil. There's a girl there who is about to face her arranged marriage, but she has other plans.

Meanwhile, at the prison, life is in utter chaos, with gangs and corrupt leaders and slavery and oh boy, all sorts of sad, sick things. There's a boy there who wants to escape, and he appears to have found the means to do so. And maybe, once he does, he can find out where he really comes from, because he has an inkling that he is not who he appears to be.

It's an intense story. And I loved it. But beware, there is NOT a love triangle! (At least not yet anyway!) So if you'll be disappointed about that, take note! :) But there is a bunch of new and fascinating characters, a uniquely created alternate world, and whole lot of twists and turns!

The next book, Sapphique, came out just last week, and I'm working on getting my hands on it soon.

Bottom line: I loved it.

  1. I loved this one too!!!! I'm actually thinking of re-reading it before reading Sapphique! And, can I just say that I loved the love triangle comment. Literarlly made me laugh out loud . . . a bit awkward while sitting at my desk at work! :)

  5. It WAS me who posted about INCARCERON. I loved it because it's unique and just plain unputtdownable. I'm glad you loved it, too. We'll have to compare notes on SAPPHIQUE since I'm planning to read it ASAP!
