  1. One or the other of my book clubs read and discussed
    Atonement (great)
I Capture the Castle (I think good, it's been a while)
    Cutting for Stone (great)
The Road (we all hated it)
    Room (great)

I love the idea of reading and discussing Nation, I'll have to consider suggesting it.

    Good luck with your choices!

  3. The Wednesday Wars! DEFINITELY.

I just finished the audiobook of Nation a couple weeks back. Quite enjoyed it.

Heard Room is really good but haven't gotten to it myself yet.

And of course A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a classic.

  4. I LOVED Ella Minnow Pea; Cutting for Stone is really good too, but different (much more serious, not to mention longer!).

Ones I really, really want to read:
    • Atonement by Ian McEwan (loved the movie)
    • Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson
    • I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

The whole list looks good, though.

  7. Super huge thumbs up for Wednesday Wars, Nation, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I also think Atonement is a masterpiece, but it's not for everyone. It seems like people either love it or hate it. I obviously love it--it's one of my top five favorites.

  8. Of the books I've read, I'd recommend I Capture the Castle (my classics group is actually discussing it next month); A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; A Walk in the Woods (hilarious!); Atonement; and Major Pettigrew. I've read Ella Minnow Pea and I liked it but I don't know if it's a great book for discussion. A Long Way from Chicago is great but it's really short, I don't know that there's that much to discuss. I've read Watership Down but it was probably 30 years ago.

I haven't read Cutting for Stone but I've heard great things about it, I wish my book group would schedule it.
