Buffy Watch Season Two Episodes 9-12

I didn't think I'd have some Buffy to report on this week, but yesterday Kelly and I managed four more episodes. Maybe we'll do more today and tomorrow too, but we'll see.

This time as I watched, I had fun jotting down some lines that stuck out to me. Enjoy!
(I'm interested if major Buffy fans can identify who is saying each of these lines. Give it a try!)

Season Two

Episode 9: What's My Line? Part 1

"That's not a nothing face, that's a something face."
"I lurk."
"I have frog fear."

In the end... this one was sort of boring. I mean, I know it was mostly a build up for the next episode which concludes things, but this first one was just okay for me. Sorry big fans....

Episode 10: What's My Line? Part 2

My first thought as the episode opened was this one.... Angel, you are a vampire! You can bust the cage! I know you can!

"I am flummoxed." "What's the flum?"
"I don't do worms."
"Hey, your hair is... brown."
"Angel's our friend, except I don't  like him."
"I am the bugman... kukucachoo." (this one made me laugh out loud literally)

Kissing music... classic! More out loud laughing. Love this new development with Xander and Cordelia!
Also love Willow and Oz walking away talking so perfectly geeky.

In the end... I really enjoyed this one, so very funny.

Episode 11: Ted

"That's the sound she makes when she is speechless with geeker joy."

John Ritter!
It's the food people, the food!
Ah nice... erroneous Mormon joke. Ha ha. :)

In the end....it was ho hum... even with John Ritter. But it was nice to see him again. He was sufficiently creepy for this episode.

Episode 12: Bad Eggs

(oops.... no lines were jotted down during this one!)

Creepy egg things. Ew gross.
Once again, I love the whole Xander Cordelia thing... and I'm getting a kick out of the fact that they are trying to keep it a secret. I'm wondering, though, how long they can keep this gag working. I can see it getting old pretty fast.

In the end... I have not much to say about this one. Kelly and I decided to sum it up in one word... WEIRD!

We are finding that we enjoy the episodes that feature the vampires (even if they are wimpy) and not the other strange and creepy creatures that are being dreamed up. As always, I'm very interested in the developing relationships. I'm rooting for whatever makes Giles happy, and for Willow and Oz. Not sure what I'm thinking about Buffy and Angel at the moment... it's turned into just kissing which is not as fun as bantering back and forth. Make sense? Anyway... we'll see!!

Buffy Watch Thoughts: Season 2 Ep. 1-8

This week, we started season two of Buffy The Vampire Slayer! Wahoo! We (as in Kelly and I and sometimes Alison) had three different Buffy Watch sessions during the week and managed a total of nine episodes!

Here are my random thought, mostly jotted down while watching and edited and added to a little after the fact.

Sunday Buffy Watch

Ep. 1 When She was Bad

-- Hey look! There's an official love interest for Giles! Yay!
-- Willow and Xander.... cute almost kiss. Was that for real?
-- Ah... something's up with Buffy... she is acting very very strange!
-- Still wimpy vampires... yes, very wimpy.
-- In the end, even after the episode, I'm still not sure what was wrong with Buffy... just slayer angst-y?

Ep.2 Some Assembly Required

--Let Giles keep talking British... please!? No more trying to stop him... hello.
-- A sneaking Angel... sweet. Love how he just pops up here and there.
-- Enjoying more funny Cordelia... she really cracks me up.
-- Zombie talk... gross
--Wow, a Frankenstein sort of thing going on here?
-- In the end, the episode quite creeped me out, and was really quite sad.

Ep. 3 School Hard

-- Wahoo! Spike! Now, we'll finally see what you are all talking about!!
-- Okay, I thought he would be less wimpy, but he still was a bit.
-- Something is up with the principle... yep, I know it.
-- The kid is gone? Just like that? The anointed one... poof?
-- In the end, I truly did enjoy the Spike swagger... very fun.

Ep. 4 Inca Mummy Girl

-- More corpses! Nice!
--Seth Green who? Everyone was excited to see him, I wasn't familiar with him, so looked him up. Now, he does sort of look familiar, but not sure from where. Much of what he's been on, I haven't seen. Anyway, I'm going to like his character, Oz, quite a bit I predict.
--Poor Xander... really. I feel like saying that a lot with him. And by the way, I miss his floppy hair!
-- In the end, I quite enjoyed this episode and feeling for poor Xander... and poor Willow too.

Wednesday Buffy Watch

Ep. 5 Reptile Boy

--Senior in college and a junior in high school... that's just wrong and weird all around.
-- And besides, something is so up with that guy!
-- Fraternity parties... not good
-- Lizard boy looks pretty fake.
-- In the end, eh, okay, whatever.

Ep. 6 Halloween

-- Nice that the vamps just desintigrate after staking! No mess!
--  Angel... the cuddly kind!
-- I was feeling a bit confused at one point, but realized afterwards that it was supposed to be that way. Once I got the way of things, I thought it was quite fun actually.
-- I'm sure Xander's actor dude thought it was a blast to change up his character for this episode. He did a great job. Do you think Buffy had fun acting wimpy too? Maybe.
-- In the end, I thought this one was really fun actually.

Thursday Buffy Watch
(I didn't jot many notes this sessions, many many interruptions!)

Ep. 7: Lie to Me

-- Willow is weird, yes?
--Buffy says she loves Angel, but she can't really love Angel... yet. Sheesh, she hardly knows him... I mean, have they even really TALKED yet?
-- In the end, I can't really remember this one much. Seems like Spike was in it, and we got some back story on Dru and Angel, but already I've forgotten!!

Ep. 8: The Dark Age

--Giles squirming when whats-her-face is around... love it.
--Love the back story on Giles... I can't seem to get enough of him.
-- Still having a hard time not thinking of him as Arthur's dad though, but it's getting there.
-- In the end, I enjoyed this one... felt packed with emotion.

So, there you have it! My Buffy thoughts of the week, for what it's worth!! I do see a difference in the two seasons just because the characters have more emotion and the episodes are just silly stuff. I mean, there's still a lot of silly stuff, but with more depth... or something. I have no idea what I'm talking about!

I think there's more Buffy watches to come this week, but I'm not sure when.

P.S. GAH! Beware when looking up Buffy pictures to post... spoilers anyone??! Sheesh. Teach me to do that again.

Buffy Watch Thoughts... Season One Done!

This past week (was it way back on Monday? ) we finished season 1 of Buffy! Wahoo!

I jotted notes as I watched and here's what I thought:

Ep. 9: The Puppet Show

- Wouldn't you want to move by now? Because... sheesh, tragedy at every turn at that high school!
-- Another genuinely creepy one!
-- What's up with the principal? I swear he's a bad guy. (Later we realized he is Quark from Star Trek!)
-- Confusing!
-- Funny ending. That was great!

Ep. 10: Nightmares

-- Spiders, yucky!
-- Boy from the other episode? We thought so at first, but no, it's a different kid.
-- What would be your worse nightmare?
-- I did kinda like this one just for that above question. What would it be, really?

Ep. 11: Out of Mind, Out of Sight

--Sad... and true sort of feeling.
--Cordelia had profound things to say... "sounded by people, but totally alone" (reminds me of the sad JG video of awhile back.)
--Weird guys... strange guys
--Weird strange ending (lol... now... nearly a week later... I can't even remember what the ending was!!!)

Ep. 12: Prophecy Girl

--I can already tell this one is more about the characters
--Much more emotion in this episode... now that's more like it!!
-- I still got a kick out of the fact that she fell/was pushed/died in the muck pond but her white dress was still quite perfect afterwards.
-- Quite the "you go girl!" ending!

Bring on season 2! Let's see if all you crazy Buffy fans are right or not... is it REALLY better? I guess we'll see! I think we plan to watch tomorrow afternoon. We'll be Twittering the time so keep your eye on that if you want to join us!

Buffy Watch Thoughts: Season 1 Episodes 6-8

Thursday evening I watched three more Buffy episodes... with Kelly again, and this time we also had Allison from Well-Read Reviews join us half way in! So fun when this happens! :)

Here are my random thoughts from this viewing session:

Episode 6: The Pack

--Weird... but cool drums!
--Another non-vampire episode? Makes me think this is like Supernatural or something we we are just dealing with strange creatures every episode, but not necessarily vampires. Which is fine, except the title of the show is misleading then I think!
-- I was quite distracted during this one because I had like three different phone calls I had to deal with and I couldn't keep pausing because... well... we were all watching together!! Pausing doesn't work!
-- But, I do remember the drums. I guess I like me some good African drums!

Episode 7: Angel

-- Okay, so THIS is the sort of episode I've been expecting all along!
-- I thought that Angel was a vampire all along, but this episode confused me and well, those questions were quickly answered. Buffy didn't know!!!
--What's with the boy? The one with the master? I still don't get what that was all about.

Episode 8: I Robot, You Jane

--Interesting talk about internet fears, from back in the beginning of internet fears.
-- We loved it when Willow chatted online but spoke her chat out loud!
-- This one was genuinely creepy to me... not just corny creepy. I guess that's a step in the right direction!

It appears three episodes is my limit for a one sitting viewing! I get so tired by the end of three of them! But I am warming up to the characters. Giles makes me smile and Willow is so witty.

We plan to watch more on Monday I think it is... about 5:00 p.m. Eastern time. Want to come join us?

Buffy Watch Thoughts: Season One Ep. 3-5

We managed another little Buffy Watch get together again last night. I was sort of hoping to get through four episodes, but I was so tired by the end of the third one that I had to call it quits! Sorry fellow watchers! This time I watched with both Kailana (The Written World) and Ibeeeg (Polishing Mud Balls.) Very fun! Except when my computer hung up right in the middle of one episode! I guess I was putting it through too much too and it had to call it quits!

Anyway, I tried to jot down some thoughts as I watched, which are as follows:

S1 Ep 3: The Witch
I rather enjoyed this one! It reminded me of.... oh wait, if I say that it would give it away! I will hide it.... it remind me of  Freaky Friday! (drag over that blank space to see!)  Also, I just finished Anna Dressed in Blood and it reminded me of the spells and witches and things from that recent book. I was especially impressed with Giles this episode! I don't know, he just got his coolness on!

S1 Ep. 4: Teacher's Pet
Ugh, this one was gross and dumb! And after the last episode and this one, I'm wondering where are the vampires? Yucky, yucky teacher! And I don't like how this episode tries to say that being a virgin at age 16 is bad or shameful... you know? Makes me sorta mad actually.

S1 Ep. 5: Never Kill a Boy on the First Date
My first thought during this story was that Owen seems nice.... therefore... is he doomed? In the end.... well, I will say almost! Now, this one seemed like what I would think of as a "normal" Buffy show. Buffy trying to be all normal yet having to come to the rescue to save everyone from the vamps. Can I just say one more time... what WEIRD and UGLY vampires in this show! And still wimpy, yep!

But it was fun, and I look forward to more! When should we do it next week? Suggestions?

Buffy Watch Thoughts: Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2

Thursday evening I decided would be the only time I could fit in the first two episodes of the Buffy Watch in order to have a little head start as June arrived. Happily, a few others caught on to my plans and we ended up having about four of us watching at the same time and Twitter chatting as we went along! So fun!

I'm pretty sure these are the only episodes I watched in my previous Buffy attempt before I gave up. (We'll see if episode three looks familiar at all when I get that one going!) And my feelings remain about the same as that first time.

My quick and first impressions (of S1 E1,2) include:
  • I get the Angel love, really, I get it! (Though he hasn't really done much yet.)
  • I really like Xander too actually.
  • And yes, I really like Giles too, but he seems so nerdy. And it confuses me that he knew what was up so fast. I felt like that whole connection he has with the kids was awfully quick.
  • The vampires are wimpy! I mean, Buffy can hold them back by just leaning on a door?
  • The fighting is corny, and the aerobatics bug me... just sayin'.
  • Yes, of course, the dialogue is witty, and I truly enjoy that! BUT...a 16 year old would never talk so... witty. However, I think this is something you see on all TV shows these days.
  • Many people commented as we watched that it's all about the characters and not the vampire stuff... yep, I get this. After two episodes, I am still getting to know these characters and I will let you know when that exact moment occurs that I LOVE them and am hooked on their strength alone. It's not happened after two episodes....
This week I plan to watch four more episodes. I'll let you know when it happens in case some of you can watch with me again!

Let the Buffy Watching Begin!

I'm ready to watch some BUFFY!

Here's a proposed schedule that I plan to start out following. Maybe it will change as things go along, but at least this will get things started.

Since I was hoping to get at least a bit into season two, I've decided to watch four episodes a week, with Saturday being my "report" day. Since this first Saturday is June 2, I hope to watch the first two episodes by then and get a start at least!

So here's what it would look like:

June 2:  S1 E 1 and 2
June 9: S1 E 3-6
June 16: S1 E 7-10
June 23: S1 E 11, 12 and S2 E 1 and 2
June 30: S2 E 3-6

If you want to go slower and just do season one, you can start next week and watch three episodes each week and be done by the end of June.... since there's only 12 episodes in season one.

Season two, however, has 22 episodes!! So the above schedule only gets us six episodes into that.

Anyway, let's see how it goes, okay?! Are you with me!??

I plan to post my thoughts on Saturdays. Let me know if you'd like to do that too and I'll link up to you on my posts. Even if you post a different day, I'll be sure to link up.

Also, if we end up talking about our Buffy watch along on Twitter I'm suggesting the tag #buffywatch. Perhaps we'll figure out a set time to chat a few times during our watch along, but we'll see how it goes first. Or, you can chat WHILE you are watching live, as they say, and that would be fun too! I'll probably watch these first two episodes tonight if anyone wants to join me.

Okay?

Ready, set, WATCH!

P.S. Be sure to follow all the Buffy posts going up over at Stella Matutina!

A Potential Buffy Watch Along

There's a bunch of us (and by a bunch I mean four or five) out there in bloggerland/twitterverse that seem to have never managed to get on the Buffy bandwagon. Are you one of us? If so, we're thinking of fixing this issue!

Here's the thing, Memory over at Stella Matutina keeps talking about doing a Buffy month in June. (Check out her post just today!) I have no idea what she's got planned, but I figure what better time to once and for all see what this Buffy craze is all about!

You know the Buffy craze? How everyone (well lots of people I trust and believe anyway) say that it's one of the best TV shows ever? How when I ask in a post "who's your favorite vampire" people respond with Spike... whom I don't even know because I've never watched this show? How there's some dude named Joss Whedon who made name for himself in TVland because of this show, and how people (lots of people I trust and believe anyway) talk about his stuff non-stop? (And whose other stuff I love on my own!)

You know all that?

And maybe you are like me and have actually TRIED to watch it, but have only managed a few episodes and all you can think is.... seriously? THIS is what everyone is raving about? But it's so...so...so... dumb? (Gasp... I said it!) Is this you?

And yet you still want to give it chance because of all the things people say about this show?

Is this is you? Then you are just like me (and the other bunch of us I mentioned above) and you need to ponder the possibility of a "watch along" in June!! Yes, it's time to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer with us similar minded, curious, potential fans. And at the same time you can learn all about it and participate in Memory's Buffy month. And if we get slogged down with the first few strange and weird episodes, we can help each other push through them!

Well? So? Are you in?

We don't have specifics yet, but I'm thinking at least watch season 1 in June, maybe even get through season 2, so that after that we will be hooked, so they say, and can watch the rest during the remainder of the summer without problems. We'll maybe make up a little schedule and maybe have some days to post thoughts or something... maybe have some Twitter convos or.... I don't know...just basically have fun watching it "together" and cheering each other on.

So I thought I'd throw this idea out there to see if any of my readers are interested in joining us so we can make sure and let you know when we DO have a plan!

Let me know if this sounds like something you want to be a part of.

And let me know if you are a huge Buffy fan and would be willing to cheer us on! That would be fun too. Maybe you can even re-watch with us. Because after all, what else will you be doing in June, right?
