Book Club Voting

My book club is currently voting on several books to try and fill up this year's schedule. We are trying to pick three books from this list:

Blessings by Anna Quindlen

Watership Down by Richard Adams
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler
The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery
Odd Girl Out by Rachel Simmons
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Any input for us? Anything that says a major thumbs up, or a major thumbs down?

  1. I would DEFINITELY have To Kill a Mockingbird on the list. One of the best books of all time.

  2. I've not read all of them but my favorites are To Kill a Mockingbird and Wuthering Heights. Both have movie tie ins if your club likes to do both. Two I didn't like were Love in the Time of Cholera and The Lovely Bones. Although I may be the only person on the planet not to like The Lovely Bones lol!

  3. Thumbs up to The Lovely Bones (read it before it's made into a movie) and to The Accidental Tourist. I love anything by Anne Tyler even though they are a bit weird and this was definitely one of her better ones.

  4. Thumbs down to The Blue Castle. A great little book, but there's not much to discuss. I'm not a Wuthering Heights fan, either. But the rest I'd vote for.

  6. My first reaction was - I love Blue Castle, and it is the 100th anniversary of Anne of GG, so to honor LM.
I haven't read Remains of the Day, but I loved Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, and plan to read Remains soon.
You can't go wrong with To Kill a Mockingbird.

  7. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books....ever!! So good. Wuthering Heights isn't one of my favorites. In fact, I haven't been able to finish it. I know lots who love it. To me, it was all about a bunch of crazies!!

  10. Thanks for all the input everyone! It's pretty obvious that if you all were in the book club we'd be reading To Kill a Mockingbird for sure! With Wuthering Heights and Lovely Bones a pretty close second. We'll have to try and get these on our schedule at some point no matter what wins this time.

  11. "Blessings by Anna Quindlen"
---I have heard good things about this book.

"To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee" --You can get a lot of interesting conversations going with this one.

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez-- Good book from what I hear.

The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler--I couldn't get into this book. I almost never quit on books, but I quit on this one.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold--I have heard both positive and negative reviews on this one.
