Top Ten Tuesday: Gateway Books
This prompt... what books were my gateway into reading... is really kind of hard because I don't really remember not reading, you know? But here's what I've come up with:
Books That Made Me Love Reading
1. Nancy Drew mysteries
2. Little House on the Prairie books
3. Newbery Award winning books circa the 70s
Books that Made Me Love Classics
4. Books by Thomas Hardy
5. Books by Charles Dickens
Books that Made Me Love Fantasy
6. Chronicles of Narnia
7. The Lord of the Rings
Books that Made Me Love YA
8. Harry Potter
9. Twilight
10. Hunger Games
Man, that's such a drop in the bucket! What books made you love reading? Link on up at The Broke and the Bookish!

Oh silly me, I should have done groups instead of trying to find ten different things! So often there really isn't just one book that is your gateway into something new.
ReplyDeleteI went through a classics phase a while back, and Thomas Hardy rocked me hard - so glad to see he made your list :-)

Yes to all the above list of books..Nancy drew and Harry Potter :)
ReplyDeleteI went about my list a bit differently and have been re-thinking some of my answers... Oh, well!
ReplyDeleteWonderful answers. I'm with you especially on YA and Fantasy. I love Hardy and Dickens too!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord of the Rings was a HUUUUGE gateway book for me...literally and figuratively. It made me unafraid to dive into lengthy epic fantasy.
ReplyDeletegreat list, I like how you broke it down--wish I would have thought of that :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing how you did this list. I think I'm going to do it too, even if it is Saturday. LoTR got me into fantasy too, and Nancy Drew into mysteries.
