A to Z Blogging: Hans Zimmer

I was thinking about saving this next A to Z Challenge post for Z, but instead, I've bumped it up to H!  I love movie soundtracks, LOVE I tell you. And one of the best, if not the best (maybe only second to John Williams) movie soundtrack composers is Hans Zimmer.

This amazingly talented guy is from Germany. And I've learned a new thing about him! He was a member of The Buggles and their popular song "Video Killed the Radio Star" and he made it the very first music video that aired on TV in 1981. How cool is that? Ah the memories. Yes. I remember this song. Yes, I remember when MTV was the cool new thing.

The first big film that he wrote the score for was Rainman. (I've actually just recently discovered this music and it's hauntingly beautiful.) This was his turning point and the rest.... is history! :) The next movie he did was Driving Miss Daisy which got a nomination for best original score. After that, the list is endless. Some of my favorites include:
  • Batman Begins (and the following movies too)
  • Inception
  • Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one)
  • Mission Impossible II
  • Man of Steetl
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • The Lion King
  • and there's so many more. Seriously. The list goes on and on.
If I had to share a favorite, it would be Batman Begins.

Here's the full album if you are interested.

Or maybe Pirates...

And the whole album if you'd like!

Anyway. Love all of his music. All of it.

  1. OMG I love his music from all his movies. I adore it most in inception & Sherlock & man of steel. Yes I also look at composers for movies too. His music is amazeballs.

    1. Julie: Amazeballs is right! That he is!

  2. Thanks for this post. I absolutely love his compositions! I love how in The Holiday, Jack Black makes a plug for the Driving Miss Daisy theme song, and, come to find out, Zimmer did the music for both movies!
