Weekly Geeks 2011.19: A Quote Quiz

This week for Weekly Geeks we're talking about quotes. I thought it would be fun to list some of my favorites  and see if you can tell me what book they are from, and who said them. I think they will all be too easy for you. Let's see what you think:

A Quote Quiz

1. "Oh, my cherished preserver!"
2. "I am haunted by humans."
3. "Is this a kissing book?"
4. "For you, a thousand times over."
5. "My mother is a fish."
6. "Alas, poor Yorik."
7. "It is a far far better thing that I do, than I have ever done..."
8. "The happiness which this reply produced, was such as he had probably never felt before; and he expressed himself on the occasion as sensibly and as warmly as a man violently in love can be supposed to do."
9. "Do you know why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories."
10. "I want words at my funeral. But I guess that means you need life in your life."

So tell me, do you know these quotes? What are some of your favorites quotes?

  1. Sheesh! All I know is 2 3 and 6. I'm thinking 7 is from a Jane Austen??? Maybe???
    2 The Book Thief
    3 The Princess Bride???
    6 Hamlet
Alright now that I'm typing out my answers I'm not so sure. Oh, and I know I should know what 4 is.
    Fun Idea!

  2. +JMJ+

#3 Jenny is right. It's from The Princess Bride. I remember it more from the movie than from the book, though. =P

#4 If my guess is right, then it's from a Lisa Kleypas Romance novel!

    #6 Hamlet indeed!

#8 Definitely from Jane Austen. I know exactly what the novel is and where to find the passage in my copy. ;-)

#9 Very likely from that children's classic which asks you to clap your hands. (One of my favourites!)

I know I've read #1, but can't place it without Googling (which I won't do!). And #7 is famous and I feel I should know it . . . but of course I'm not sure, either.

    Great game, Suey! =D

  3. 1. Jane Eyre?
    3. The Princess Bride
    4. The Kite Runner
    6. Hamlet
    7. A Tale of Two Cities
    8. Pride and Prejudice?
    9. Peter Pan

    Okay that's it for me.

  4. +JMJ+

If #1 is from Jane Eyre, then I lose all my Bronte cred. =P

I'll just bet it's from there, too.

  5. Too easy? I think not (at least not for me!). I only knew a couple right off (yikes):
    #3 - The Princess Bride
    #8 - Pride and Prejudice

After reading other comments, I can see #2 being The Book Thief, but I wouldn't have come up with that on my own.

Hope you post all the answers -- I'd love to see where they'll all from!

  6. #5 is, of course, the infamous Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. I think I got most of the others, with the help of everyone else. Except that last one...

  7. Thanks to those of you who played so far! It's fun to see you ponder these! I will have answers up by the end of the week... just in case any other Weekly Geek types want to come on over and give it a try.
