The Sunday Salon: Just Hanging Out

Happy Sunday!

Yesterday and today I've been totally, and I mean TOTALLY immersed in The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I know I'm a little late to the party, but MAN that's a good book. I couldn't even concentrate on anything today until I finished it. Wow.

Now, I've got to continue on with Pawn of Prophecy which I started while vacationing. Right now I'm to the part where we're in the middle of a journey. Something needs to happen soon.

But first, my 10 year old daughter begged me to help her do some scrapbooking. So we hauled out all THAT mess. And as I've been sorting pictures and piles and projects, I've noticed that there's a direct correlation between when I started blogging and when I stopped scrapbooking. Hmmm.....

Meanwhile, I supposed I should fix dinner for the family. Too bad we need food in this life. That's what I say.

What the family is reading:

The Mr.: He told me last night he has officially given up on Stranger in a Strange Land, and he's halfway through! How can he do that? He says, he doesn't get anything that's going on and he's had enough.

JJ (17): She finished Unwind by Neal Shusterman this week. She told me it was sad. Now I'm not sure I want to read it too or not.

Moder (14): Percy Jackson #... whatever the newest one is.... 10?
Toto (10): Pendragon #2.
Question of the day: Have you read Edgar Sawtelle? Did it grab you and drag you in? Or was it only so-so for you?

  1. I've yet to read Edgar Sawtelle.

I've given books up when I was halfway through before. Did that recently on both Mary Shelley's The Last Man and Charlotte Bronte's Villette. Neither lived up to their more famous counterparts.

  2. I've been scrapbooking, too. However, over the last two years, I have switched to digital scrapping and love it! I no longer have to "haul out all that mess." :)

  3. Amanda: I nearly gave up on Villette when I read it years and years ago. But I plodded through to the end.

Joy: I have yet to make that plunge to digital scrapbooking. I need to try it.

  4. I am so glad to hear you are enjoying The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I've finally decided maybe I should actually read that one.

It's been ages since I did any scrapbooking. It's so much fun, but oh can you make a mess doing it! LOL

I'm sorry your husband didn't care for Stranger in a Strange Land. It's one I really enjoyed. Thank goodness for all the other books out there and there's no point in him wasting time with a book he isn't enjoying.

I hope you have a great week!

  5. Apparently I don't hang out in the most bookish places, because I've never heard of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I looked it up and I can already tell that it isn't the type of book I would read. I avoid dark books as much as possible.

I like the idea of posting what your whole family is reading. I may have to steal that idea!

  6. I have a similar correlation between jogging and blogging. And I had a previous one between scrapping and jogging. I seem to be able to carry on one hobby at a time. My poor third child has no scrapbook. You know I'll never live that down.

I was looking at Edgar Sawtelle at school library and trying to decide if I'll get to it this summer. It sounds very good!

  7. I've heard mixed reviews about Edgar Sawtelle. And it's such a big book! Not sure I can take it on.

I too have given up books halfway; the latest was Three Cups of Tea. I know, what is wrong with me? I actually read about 200 pages and just said forget it. I was totally forcing myself to finish. And why? I mean, if you don't like a book, you don't like it, right? I know some people have a 50-page rule. I probably should have stopped then, but I just kept thinking it would get better.

  8. Lit.Feline: Yes, read it. And when my husband told me that last night, I said "But, but... it's supposed to be so good!" I guess I'll still have to see for myself.

    Dani: Steal away!

Raidergirl: My 4th, the one begging me to help her scrapbook today, said about my 1st.. "But mom, HE has like FIVE books and I only have ONE!"

I hope you do try Edgar. I be looking forward to your review.

Lynn: I took forever to get to it because of those very reasons.. it's size and the mixed reviews. But I shouldn't have worried!

And not good news about Three Cups of Tea. I just bought it 2 days ago!!
