Kdrama Review: Oh My Venus

Drama: Oh My Venus
Genre: Romantic comedy
Starring: So Ji Sub and Shin Min Ah, also Sung Hoon and Henry
Rating: ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

In this, one of the highest rated and favorite Korean dramas of recent years, we have a girl who used to be pretty and popular but has let her self "go" over the years that she concentrated on law school and becoming a lawyer.... who then meets up with a guy who is a famous worldwide known trainer. Though he is famous and world-known, he's currently in hiding since he is running away from a scandal that he may or may not be involved it.

It just so happens that these two are coming back on the same flight from America to Korea when our heroine (let's call her Oh My Venus) passes out. Our hero (let's call him Mr. Coach) saves the day and revives her. It's all extremely embarrassing for them both and they hope to never see each other again.

Well, we know THAT'S not going to happen!

They cross paths several times and when she ends up having to fight off a stalker, he says, hey, my house is big, you can live there! It's all on the up and up and very platonic, besides he has two "kids" that also live with him and who he provides for and trains and mentors. She's all like, whatever, and they become one big strange happy family.

The three boys being so freaking cute!

This arrangement also makes it much easier for him to help her regain her health and former beauty. She agrees. Let the craziness begin!

Having come from just watching Faith, it took me awhile to warm up to this new leading man. Many of these Korean actors have the cutest baby faces, which I love. But this guy... not even remotely baby faced. In fact, just the opposite. Not that that was a bad thing, of course, just took me awhile to get used it. But I must say, I warmed up quickly and loved it, LOVED it, when his face softened and smiled, which as time goes on, he does more and more and more. Melty!

So Ji Sub with his trademark furrowed brow look.
Shin Min Ah with the dimple that features prominently in this show.

And the two "boys", his sidekicks and proteges, are the best and provide much of the funny moments in this show. Well, and the very very sad moments too. One of them has a back story that KILLS you.(One of them is cutie pie Henry who I know and love from Super Junior and it's most awesome when he dances and sings and pulls out his violin. The other, who I know and love from Faith, is just plain drop dead beautiful.)
Cute cute Henry
Beautiful beautiful Sung Hoon.

This drama is lighthearted and funny and inspirational. (Makes me want to do planks! When have I EVER wanted to do planks in my life???)  And, did I say romantic? Probably one of the most romance filled ones I've watched so far. Ah... swoon. (Guys, you know I'm into swoon, which is why these dramas are so fun and enticing and addicting... they are filled with swoon!) Oh, but it has it's weepy moments too. Like you'll need a tissue (or two) for one particular episode for sure!

Well, and so, here are a couple of videos to entice you to give this one a try:

This one shows how fun Henry is in this drama. His character uses lots of English (as does Henry himself) which make it especially adorable.

I like the clips this one shows, though the Lady Gaga song overpowers and makes me annoyed. Anyway, it will give you an idea of the relationship and chemistry these two actors have. So. Much. Fun!

Well anyway, let me know if you decide to give this one a try. Jenni Elyse watched this one with me and she seemed to fall hard and fast! (You want to watch? Click on the title link way back up at the top!)

Meanwhile, I'm on to the next one which is about an alien! Ha!!

  3. That one episode nearly killed me as you saw by my reaction, but I loved it. I'm still missing it. I'm glad these shows aren't more than one season, but at the same time, I kind of wish they were so I can enjoy my favorite characters/actors longer.

  4. I am so, so happy you loved this one! :) I hadn't thought about how So Ji Sub isn't very baby-faced like others, until you mentioned it, but when he does smile? Oh man!! *swoon* I am definitely a fan! :D The three boys are too adorable and I love how "Coach" takes care of them all and brings everyone together. *sigh* I think I need to go rewatch my fave swoony scenes again!
