The Sunday Salon: Grandparent Weekend

This weekend I'm hanging with the grandparents! It's great for slowing down... way way down! But of course I brought my computer and my books and so I'm all good to go!

Outside my window: Wow, what a perfect day it was today! Right now it's dark on a Saturday night, but clear and clean and beautiful. We need more days like today.

I'm listening to:  the Lawrence Welk show! Yes! The grandparents LOVE this stuff!

Song of the week: The Great Commandment by Camouflage. They sound a lot like Depeche Mode you know, but different.

TV Talk: Oh my word Vampire Diaries was intense this week. Stefan is a new man. Scary dude. Survivor was gross with pig eating. I started watching Merlin season three on Netflix. So excited! I missed these guys! And Dr. Who continues to get better and better and better.

Books I'm Reading: Still working on Under the Dome. Halfway done!
Books I finished: Red Glove by Holly Black
Books I started: Going to start any second now... Interview With a Vampire.
Books I want to start: The Night Circus, The Demon King
Books I bought this week: Blood Red Road, Silence, The Death Cure, Variant

Other bookish business: What a fun book club we had this week! Talked and talked and talked. Post to come soon! Also, it's looking more and more like I'll be doing the readathon after all. Can I still sign up?

Favorite things of the week: Driving up here to be with the grandparents, windows down, music blasting! Hanging with book bloggers and authors on Tuesday, and book club people on Thursday. Making letter sugar cookies.

Worrying about: what it means to join Pinterest. Too late. It's done. First pins I pinned? Markus Zusak, The Book Thief, Josh Groban and Wentworth Miller. Shocked? I know. Seriously, I have no clue what I'm doing.

Plans for the week: Well, we thought about going somewhere for Fall Break, but there seems to be too many other things happening. Other than that, I have no idea what else is going on.

Recipe of the week:
Sugar Cookies
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups of flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup sour cream

Mix it up, cut it out and bake it!

Around the house: things are actually pretty clean. It was book club week after all. I vacuumed you know. And tried to clean off the counter, but that doesn't last long at all.

Family matters: My husband became older than me this week! It won't last long though, because in only a month, I'll catch up. The 7th grader survived her first orchestra concert. She did great! College daughter caught a cold. College son flew to Arizona without mishap. Eleventh grader is not enjoying Physics.

That's it for now. It's going to be a great week! Right? Of course right.

  1. I LOVED Interview With a Vampire. I hope you do too.
I own Blood Red Road and started reading it a week or so ago - it is good, but rather depressing and lonely (at least the beginning) so I had to set it aside as it is not a good fit for my mood right now.
I finished reading Anna and the French Kiss - I thought it was good. I will put my review of it up on my blog early this coming week.
The sugar cookies sound very yummy. Maybe I will make them.

  2. Physics isn't my favorite either! I hope your daughter feels better soon! We've had a heck of a time with colds recently unfortunately.

I hope you enjoy Interview with a Vampire. Take care and have a great week!

  3. How lucky you are to still have your grandparents! I miss mine all of the time but boy, do I remember watching Lawrence Welk with them. Sometimes I'll catch it on tv and watch for a few minutes just for old-time sake.

I was pinning like crazy on Pinterest but then life got busy again and haven't had time to get back. Still don't know what I'm going either!

  4. How do you like pinterest? That is a really big thing in my class right now. During class I can see like 3 or 4 people on there looking at things. I don't really understand how it is any different than going to google images and typing in something?

  5. I will totally be checking out Camouflage as I love Depeche Mode!

And yes, there's still time to sign up for Readathon! I'll be reading, cheering and maybe even be hosting a mini-challenge. Go, sign up now! :)

  7. Ibeeeg: I've got a good start on Interview, though it isn't really GRABBING me yet....

Literary Feline: LOL re. physics! Yuck I agree. Actually I had a blast in my physics class in high school, but that's another story! :)

Lisa: Yes, it's great that they are still around, though sometimes I wonder if they'd rather not be. Life is pretty hard and boring for them right now. :( Hey, now that I'm pinning, you should get back to it! I want to see your stuff! :)

Jed: Ah, very very fun this Pinterest. It's a way to organize and share your favorite images. Much different from just searching on Google. I'm still figuring it out though.

Kate: I've been listening to more of their songs on Youtube, but this one remains my favorite. Awesome re. the readathon. You go girl!

Kailana: I've got a good start. I'm going to email you shortly with my thoughts.

I'm glad you'll be doing the read-a-thon after all.
