The Sunday Salon: After the Party Thoughts
Outside my window: There's absolutely nothing interesting out there right now. It's ugly ugly ugly. Spring soon though! It's late Saturday night and I'm all hyped up about a successful rip roarin' time at our Utah Book Blogger Social tonight. And you get to be part of my hyperness, lucky you.
I am listening to: Well, it was Inception, but now it's switched to my 80's Pandora station playing some Police at the moment.
I am watching: The Twitter after party now that the big Utah Book Blogger Social is over. Yes, you CAN watch Twitter, right? Ah Twitter, what a strange beast you are. Two years after joining you... I think I finally "got" it this past week! The key? Watch TV and tweet. I don't know, we'll see how it goes THIS week and then I'll let you know if I truly get this thing called Twitter.
I am thinking: that I am very much tired right now and should be sleeping, but am a bit keyed up after the party and must write my musings post anyway. I am thinking that being social exhausts me! Hopefully I'm not the only one.
I am grateful for: so many fun Utah bookish people. Seriously, four years ago when I finally got brave enough to start this blogging thing, I had NO idea where it would all end up! It's insane!
I am reading: Oh boy I finished The Glass Castle everyone!!!! Can you believe it... AND... wow. That was a crazy story. I can't even IMAGINE how there could be people out there like that. I have lived a one sheltered life, that is for sure. Then I started the first Beyonds book by Brandon Mull. Very fun so far. Must finish that quickly though, so that on Monday I can start Lord of Chaos.
I am photographing: Utah book bloggers! But that will be another post. Stay tuned.
I am listing: nothing really at the moment, but I will come up with something soon I'm sure.
I am creating: So, this week I dusted of my sewing machine, literally, and fixed two skirts and a swimming suit for my daughter. It was interesting, actually, making that thing go again after, I don't know how long, of it just sitting there. I really really need to get creating with my sewing machine again. I miss it so bad.
On my iPod: Let's see, still nothing new. Same old stuff as last week.
I am hoping and praying: that I have the best most deepest sleep ever tonight!
Around the house: Oh I think I cleaned today! There was some vacuuming that happened, and I swiped a duster around the ceilings a bit, and we washed sheets, and did dishes! BUT, the kitchen is still a mess at this very current time. How does this happen?
From the kitchen: Pancakes for breakfast with homemade syrup, which I was raised on, but we have only recently discovered at this house. It's amazingly better than the store stuff I tell you. Try it.
SOME of my favorite things from the past week: Hanging out with book lovers, buying Josh Groban tickets, texting with my sister about Robin Hood, tweeting during the Oscars and American Idol, and I can't remember what else.
The children this week: One kid had a big choir production tonight, which I found out about after planning the Utah blogger party... so his sisters went to support him and film it for us. I think it all worked out well.
Plans for the week: Birthday party! Family over on Thursday, slumber party on Friday. WISH ME LUCK! Also, this week I will procure Markus Zusak tickets if all goes well. I'll need luck there too! It's possible all the Utah bookish people will be finding each other again at that event. Oh, wow only three weeks from now! People, you are going to have to help me figure out something intelligent to say to him. Please?
On this date: Boring to you, but interesting to me is to see what my normal week was like a year ago from now. Ha... this post from 2009 cracked me up! It was a "not a post" post.
Thanks to Ibeeeg of Polishing Mud Balls for the inspiration for this post's layout.
I also loved The Glass Castle- and yes, I must have led a very sheltered life, too. I can't believe Walls grew up to be a normal, functioning adult.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read The Glass Castle, 'though I keep hearing good things about it.
ReplyDeleteCan I put a plug in for my first Give-Away? Jim Weiss and his company, Greathall Productions, very generously provided 2 of his storytelling CDs for this Give-Away, autographed by Jim himself. He is an amazingly gifted storyteller, and all-around nice person. So come by my blog and "meet" Jim Weiss and enter the drawing.
Thanks, Suey!
Jealous jealous.... can't wait to see pics from last night!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing I hadn't planned on going though (due to sick kids) because I caught the blasted bug they had!!
(And naturally, now that they've all finished their antibiotics and whatnot, Mister has a fever.)
It was so much fun last night! Thank you for all your hard work. I loved The Glass Castle.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a fun time! I don't really have any book bloggers around me, let alone a whole crowd of them!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your blogging community ties. What a fun evening you must have had.
ReplyDeleteI am eagerly awaiting the Tucson Book Festival this coming weekend. Brandon Mull is going to be there - - so I will stalk him and think of you!
I wish I could send you some sunshine...you won't want to switch me places come summer tho.
Hope your sleep was sweet :)
My thoughts:
ReplyDelete*I am jealous you get to have such fun with other local book blogger in person,.
*It is ugly outside my window too.
*I may be the last person, but I still don't get twitter!
*The kitchen? Same problem here, and once again? I don't get it!
*I loved your "not a post".*
*smiles*
The party last night was very fun. I always come away from those things hoping that I didn't say anything too stupid. :) Let's see if I can figure out Twitter soon. Right now it seems a little overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteTina: My husband just started reading it now and keeps saying "you sure this is true?"
ReplyDeleteMouse: I will enter!
Britt: Oh dear, I hope you ALL get well soon! Did you see Natasha's pics over on Facebook? Much better than mine will be.
Megan B: So glad to meet you even if I didn't really talk to you! Ugh... these parties make me crazy because I never talk as much as I wish to.
Kailana: Oh my gosh, what a crowd we had!
Inside: Have fun meeting Brandon Mull! He is a hoot. I hope to go to his launch party next week. I wish you lived closer so you could come to our blogger party. End of Aug...plan a trip! :)
Kim: Thanks! You should plan a trip too! :)
Kim#2: You sounded very intelligent, I promise! But I get it... I do the same thing. And Twitter... sheesh... so happy you joined, but not sure I really know anything to pass on to you. Just talk there! You have to not be scared to jump into conversations! That's where I end up having a problem. Make good use of hashtags... see what people are saying about the same thing you are talking about. Anyway, have fun!
