My Top Ten: Books I've Re-Read

I'm not huge into re-reading, though I totally enjoy the experience when I do. Most of the time, I find myself re-reading something for book club. But there's been other times where I've just re-read because it felt like it was time. Here's a ten eleven of my all-time favorite re-reads:

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Good Earth by Pearl Buck
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
Katherine by Anya Seton
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
East of Eden by John Steinbeck

What books do you find yourself re-reading over and over?

  1. I hope to reread Jane Eyre this October.

My rereads are generally fairly random, if you don't count Harry Potter. I reread a Maugham book every once in awhile, or my favorite book, Possession.

  2. East of Eden is definitely a book that I find myself rereading. I haven't read Grapes of Wrath before but I plan on doing it very soon. Of Mice and Men, Harry Potter, and several short stories are rereading material too.

  3. I hardly ever re-read, but the one title I keep coming back to is To Kill a Mockingbird.

  4. I can re-read the Outlander books - over and over again. I discover new details each time I re-read them.

East of Eden is a very good book, but I don't think I could re-read it. Who knows...there are many more years ahead of me so time will tell.

Oh yeah, Pride and Prejudice ... that is a re-read book for me too. I love that story. I can also re-read Jane Eyre. My 15-year old daughter is reading that book for school. I hope she likes it.

I have not read Ender's Game. I think I need to.

You have a nice list of re-reads.

  5. I've re-read three from your list: KATHERINE, ENDER'S GAME, and EAST OF EDEN.

Have we ever discussed KATHERINE before? I absolutely love that book! I few years ago I read Thomas Costain's books on the Plantagenets and found out John of Gaunt was not the man he was in KATHERINE. Still doesn't matter. It's something I expect to read again someday.

  6. I normally reread Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series once a year, along with Ballet Shoes and The Secret Garden. Also, when I first read The Club Dumas I immediately read it twice more-- I had to stop myself from reading it a fourth time by hiding it from myself!

  7. I was a big re-reader in high school, but since then I rarely re-read. The book I re-read the most was most likely Helter Skelter!

  8. Here is my list:

There are too many books and so little time. I really want to re-read some of my favorites but then I feel like I will miss out on others. One of these days...

  9. Amanda: I still need to read a Maugham for the first time! And Possession, I think I could handle a re-read of that one sometime, though I'd probably be tempted to skip over the poems... again....

Vasilly: Oh, I hope you enjoy Grapes of Wrath! It's one of those "love it or hate it" kind of books.

Tina: Yes, it's an amazing book.

Ibeeeg: I've only read the first Outlander... I guess I need to try another one some day!

Caroline:Love Katherine! Yes, I bet John of Gaunt could have been quite ruthless. I wonder what he was REALLY like....

Anastasia: Oh boy... I better add The Club Dumas to my list! That good? Really?

Reviews: Wow, another one I've never read!

Tanu: Exactly! Thanks for playing along.

  10. We have a new member to our Real Life book club who didn't realize that most of us have already read The Book Thief, so I'll be reading that one again. Excited to dig in--it's been a few years.

This is a great list, Suey!

  11. I re-read A LOT!!!! Some of my favorites include Wicked, Harry Potter, and The Hobbit. Some favorites are like comfort food to me!
