I love John Adams by David McCullough. I named my daughter Abigail because of it.
ReplyDeleteI just read one on Abigail Adams and Mary Todd Lincoln. Both fascinating women, and I learned a lot about history to boot! Great choices. I'm going to suggest that Helen Keller for book club next year. One of my many book clubs, that is...**super head smack!**
ReplyDeleteNot sure I have a top 10, because I'm not a big biography reader, but I have to add The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom and The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.

ReplyDeleteBiographies were my favorite genres in grade school, but I haven't read any in a very long time. I have been wanting to read Between a Rock and a Hard Place though so maybe I will try that one.
ReplyDeleteOnly ten? Lol. I need to do a post and link up. Memoirs and biographies are all I read. I loved McCullough's 1776 but I still want to read John Adams. Have you read Pam Cope's book called Jentsen's Gift? One of my favorite's.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading every biography in my school library when I was in 6th grade!! How times have changed. I think I like biographies and memoirs so much because I must be noisy or something. Thanks for a list to motivate me again.
ReplyDeleteNot a big non-fiction reader, so don't think I'd be able to come up with a top ten list. I've read several biographies of Queen Elizabeth I that I enjoyed, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Kathy Griffin's memoir. Do those count? ;)

Lynne: I know! It's hard to narrow these lists down! I tried to read, but never finished, 1776. I will try again some time. And now I haven't read the Pam Cope book. I'll keep my eyes open for it.
Inside a Book: I need to keep reading more of them too. Really. I love them, but fiction just pushing them all aside!

ReplyDeleteYeah, 1776 is one of those books where you really have to be in the right frame of mind to read it. That's probably why I haven't picked up John Adams yet. lol. I'll get there, I'll get there :)

ReplyDeleteOne of my fave biographies that I read recently was Amazing Grace, about William Wilberforce (movie by the same title is based on it). Absolutely amazing. Good list!
