So I decided, YES, what the heck, be part of the BBAW excitement and see what happens. And YES, what the heck, let's ship internationally, and NO, I can't wait to give this amazing book away, so I'm not waiting!!
Without further ado, I have a nice new hardback, signed copy of Taken by Storm by Angela Morrison to giveaway. This is a wonderfully intense YA book about the romance between Michael and Leesie, written in a very creative and unique style. Michael is the wild, rebel type boy, while Leesie is the sweet, conservative Mormon girl. Yet somehow, even though Leesie considers Michael taboo for her, they are perfect for each other.
To enter, please comment with an answer to this question:
What is something that you consider taboo for you? Something that you are better off avoiding, yet you just can't stay away.
The contest will last through Book Blogger Appreciation Week, next week (Friday Sept. 18) and I will post the winner, who will be chosen at random from submitted commenters, on Sunday, the 20th. Thanks for entering! (P.S. Be sure to leave an email address so I can contact you easily.)
Does food count? As in I'm completely addicted to chocolate and it's really bad for me but I can't help but keep eating the stuff way too often?
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't count, I'm not sure I really have anything taboo that I can't avoid...
amandagignac[at]gmail[dot]com
No need to enter me, but I wanted to answer the question and tell you I would post the giveaway in my sidebar.
ReplyDeleteOk, too taboo for me?
I guess I would say crowds and large events where I can get lost; but it seems I'm destined to throw myself in the mix to meet other bloggers, publishers, authors, etc. I just can't seem to help myself.
Taboo - probably a good well-stocked used book store. But really only if I have lots of cash (which is never).
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should also say blogging (and twitter :) since it sucks up my time!
Looks like a great book!
librariansbook(at)gmail(dot)com
Fattening foods should be taboo for me. I can't stay away from them.
ReplyDeletewandanamgreb(at)gmail(dot)com
Swearing. I grew up in CA around A LOT a swearing and I'm afraid it's part of my internal vocab all too often. But I rarely say any of it out loud. I allow myself a few h---s or d---s every once in a while because it scandalizes my husband. :) But I never say anything "worse." Never. I don't like it and it would be too slippery a slope.
ReplyDeleteTaboo - butter.

Amanda: Food counts and I'm sure is going to many people's major big taboo. And guess what? I just barely this minute got a book from you! Thanks again so much. :)
ReplyDeleteTaboo? Right now, an online friendship with a really good (male) friend I haven't talked to in nearly 20 years. Probably not the best thing for me, but it's been really good catching up with him.
ReplyDeleteWas that a bit on the overshare side?
How about swearing, then. Shouldn't do it, but sometimes it just feels good.
Not exactly Taboo but more addiction. I keep requesting books from the library. I have a ton of books at home and cant possibly read them before they are due. So instead of writing them down for a later date, i just keep requesting.
ReplyDeleteBest of all. Eating chocolate and reading.
Same here Laura, I always have books on hold at the library and when I get them I end up moving it to the top of my reading pile so I feel like I am neglecting the other books.
ReplyDeletejen4777[at]hotmail.com
Please enter me! THis book is at the top of my must read list, and its never in any of the bookstores I'm in.
ReplyDeleteI would say bookstores or just buying books. I'd be better off avoiding bookstores because I buy way too many books everytime I go in one.
thebookcellar@wi.rr.com
A book store as that is where all my good intentions just disappear. As Amanda says if food is counted thats my second weakness.
ReplyDeleteThanks for opening this contest worldwide.

The internet! Blogs! I spend wayyyyy too much time on them. The internet has gotta be the best procrastinating method I've ever found.

Thanks for the contest! :)
I am lactose intolerant and have a condition that causes me to get sick when I eat too much sugar. But.... I die for ice cream, so, since my birthday is Monday, my DH just put a small container of ice cream in my hand and I will eat is and I will be sick, but oh will it be worth it.

Caffeine- definitely. I love the boost it gives in the morning but some days just can't stop and then you know you get the jitters. So I should just stay away from it all together. That's my taboo.

Coffee and Chocolate.
ReplyDeletePlease count me in.
cindyc725 at gmail dot com
Something taboo for me...sweets, especially after hitting my goal weight. I still indulge once in a while though, I don't have enough willpower to completely cut them out. =P
ReplyDeletekirar59[at]yahoo[dot]ca
Something taboo....definitely chocolate and french fries! Love them both!!
ReplyDeletesimplystacieblog@gmail.com
Chocolate is taboo for me. If only I could stop eating it, I might be able to lose weight.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me :D

Taboo for me is a combination of fattening foods and blogging. It was bad enough being addicted to blogging but it eats (no pun intended) into my workout time which makes the fattening foods I eat even worse!
ReplyDeletedasuzuki at yahoo dot com
Chocolate and pão de queijo (it's cheese bread, a brazilian food) are my sins. So good but I shouldn't eat so much... but I can't avoid.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this giveaway.

Please enter me, don't you just love the cover?
ReplyDeleteTaboo, I don't know. I cane at all I want and not put on weight(touch wood), so food is out of the question.
Probably buying too many books or too many clothes? Buying books is not a Taboo, but buying too many book is :)
Thanks for the contest. Please enter me elizascott2005 at yahoo dot co dot in.
For me it is the sunshine. I have lupus and should stay out of the sun, but on a beautiful day, a few minutes of the warm golden rays are hard to resist.
ReplyDeleteSusan
My list of taboo things would include chocolate, shopping and the internet :-)
ReplyDeletemarielay@gmail.com
Definitely pop (soda). I know it is bad for me - yet whenever I'm reading, eating, bored, happy, etc - I crave pop. The thing it is, it isn't even the caffeine - its the carbonation. It really is a problem and I need to find a substitute! :(
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a problem staying away from gossip! It makes me feel horrible (because I know I should just ignore it), but I'm just too curious!
Thanks for the contest!
grochowskis@hotmail.com
A taboo for me would be saying mean things to your friends. I have a few friends who do this and I can never fathom what they are thinking everytime I see them and the first thing they say is "Have you put on weight?"
ReplyDeletelesly7ch(at)yahoo(dot)com
Baking! Then eating those gooey, yummy, unhealthy baked goods... mmmm brownies! I'm vegan but sadly I've found sooo many ways to duplicate ridiculously unhealthy junk food *sobs*. I have a sweet tooth. It's an issue!

ReplyDeleteCholocate is taboo for me. I can't even have it in the house. I can be good all day, but at night, it just calls to me.

ReplyDeletehmmm...Well I can't avoid anything which has lots and lots of cheese in it...I wonder if this is considered as a taboo.. :)
Thanks for the contest.
For me? Reading webcomics. They weren't such a taboo when I lived in the city (they did take up some time, but the entertainment was worth it), but living where I do now they take up way more of our limited bandwidth than they're really worth. I still read them sometimes, though.
ReplyDeleteikkinlala AT yahoo DOT ca
Taboo? Hmm... Well, I should probably spend less time on the computer reading book blogs and just read the piles of books. I should probably stop saying a certain word that pops out of my mouth whenever I'm frustrated. And Diet Coke is really bad for me, but I can't stop.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
s.mickelson at gmail dot com
I'm going to have to go with a lot of the crowd here and say that fattening foods are probably one of my most taboo things. I know I shouldn't eat them, but I do anyway!
ReplyDeleteI've read a few great reviews of this book - thanks for the chance to win!
toadacious1 at yahoo dot com
For me taboo is chocolate and internet.. I can spend hours in the computer and never get tired.. My eyes would regret it someday!
ReplyDeletesheere.dry@gmail.com
Great giveaway! Well, taboo for me is staying up way to late on a regular day (not weekends). Like I'm doing right now (3 am), I will regret it tomorrow.. :(

a good sale!!! i love to shop minsthins at optonline dot net
ReplyDeletefor me it's Starbucks! I have to pay in quarters sometimes, because if my husband sees one more charge...mmm...
ReplyDeleteMy taboo would be desserts and anything especially chocolate and fudgy. I am not the kind of girl who can stop at the small sliver of cake.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.

This is going to sound silly but Walmart should be taboo for me. Even if I'm just running in for one thing, I can't seem to leave the store without spending at least $100 dollars.
ReplyDeleteSweets are taboo for me but I have always had a sweet tooth.
ReplyDeletedjeanq(at)gmail(dot)com
Shopping. I really can't afford to do as much as I do, but I can't seem toa void it. Thrift stores help, but not as much as I would like.
ReplyDeletemisusedinnocence@aol.com
My taboos would be chocolate and Kohl's cant walk out of there just spending a little bit of money
ReplyDeletemsboatgal at aol.com
Funny because I think I'm pretty much one with the main character. Give me those rebel boys any day. I actually read taboo as tattoo and it kind of made me swoon a bit. Then I re-read it. Oh dear. I really am in love with those rebels!! Yum.
ReplyDeleteOh! And Barnes and Noble. That place is my taboo. I'm convinced the Devil runs that place. Every time I go there I spend the money I've been saving for clothes on books. *sigh*
Something taboo for me is going shopping either in the Dollar Store or in Half Price books just to "look around". I am never able to just "look around"! I usually spend at least $10-$15. Gotta stop going there!!
ReplyDeletenancyecdavis AT bellsouth DOT net
Taboo for me should be having leftover dessert on the kitchen counter. It's so easy to just have one little piece of that brownie until half the pan is gone.
ReplyDeleteSoft drinks! I drink wayyy to many even though I know the caffeine an sugar are bad for me! I'm an addict and I know it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
imsosweepy { at } gmail { dot } com
Chocolate, for sure. Definitely got an addiction to that stuff ;)
ReplyDeletelucidconspiracy[at]gmail[dot]com
If food counts, then definitely chips. I can't help myself even though I shouldn't be eating them.
ReplyDeletelovinfitch(at)aol(dot)com
Hmm, this is a tough question! What's taboo for me...I SHOULD make napping taboo for me because whenever I do it I feel guilty for wasting time after :(
ReplyDeletejessicallawlor at gmail dot com
great giveaway btw, this looks like an awesome book!
mmm good question..i think the internet.. i spend to much time in blogs, and others pages..
ReplyDeletedarksiry(at)gmail.com
