Guest Post at The Book Garden!

Oh my! I forgot to tell you all something!

This week I was a guest poster over at The Book Garden! In all the excitement around here (concussions, Labor Day camping trip, kids moving out, storytelling festival, etc.) I totally forgot to send my readers over there to check it out.

A Bookword Story at The Book Garden

So, please, can you click on the link and go say hi over there? I think there's even a contest or something for those who comment on these guest posts Birgit has going while she is on vacation. (To Scotland... lucky duck!)

My post is a made-up story using as many Bookwords as I could. It's silly, but fun!

Now, back to your weekend. Have a good one! Don't forget about the Utah Book Blogger Party tomorrow in the canyon. I hope to see a bunch of you there.

Bookword Meme Idea

Hey everyone! This post has two purposes.... first, to find out if there's interest in reviving the Bookword Game as a simple listing meme, and second to see if I have successfully figured out how to use Google Docs like a Mr. Linky.

So, we (Raidergirl3 of An Adventure in Reading) thought it would be fun to take the list of Bookwords we all created over the past couple of years and have all those interested make lists from them to post and share in their blogs. We would pick one word each week or so, and then we would each make a list of books that fit that word for us. So, for example, if the word that week was CheckBook, I would list books that I've read where I can remember constantly checking to see what page I was on. (Usually, these are big fat books where I'm anxious to see progress.) And you, as participants, would do the same word that week, and we'd compare our lists. It's just another simple list meme using Bookwords as the prompt.

Then, since I really didn't want to deal with Mr. Linky, yet I wanted a way to make a list of blogs participating each week, I figured out how to use the forms in Google Docs as a sort of Mr. Linky.... at least I think I did. So that's where you need to help me today by filling out this form with your name and blog info if you think you are interested in this Bookword meme idea. (This doesn't mean you are committing to anything, just interested) That way, we can see if we have any takers, plus determine if my Google Linky form is working.

Once you've filled out the form, be sure to refresh the browser to see if your info appears in the bottom form below. Then you'll be able to see if it's working or not. Let me know if you encounter problems!

Make perfect sense to y'all?

Thanks for you help and enthusiasm!

The Bookword Game: Announcing New Word!

Last week we've been voting on a word to describe what we should a call a book that you checked out of the library but have to take back unread, with the hopes of getting it again to read some day of course!

We had 37 responses and the race was really close with a tie back and forth the whole week between A Library Leftover and a Boomerang Book! But I'm calling it this morning because right now, A Boomerang Book has edged by with 14 votes, while A Library Leftover still just had 13! Whew. So close!

So congratulations to Bybee with the winning word:
A Boomerang Book!

Now, time for a new word to create. It has come to my attention that we need a word to describe this situation:

What should we call a book that is great while you are reading it, you like it fine and you are enjoying it fine, BUT after you put it down, it's really hard to pick back up and get back into again?

Leave your suggestions in the comments and next week, Raidergirl3 will have the poll up over at An Adventure in Reading.

Thanks for playing!

Bookword Game: New Word and Suggestions Needed

The winner of our latest bookword (with 86% of the vote) is:

Title Block: what we call a book where you can remember its plot, but not the title, suggested by Melissa from One Librarian's Book Reviews. Congratulations!

On to the next word! What should we call a book that seems to take on a personality of its own and call out to you to "please read me NOW" and is very persistent about it and won't leave you alone until you've read it. Or, in shorter words, what should we call a book that begs to be read immediately?

Suggestions in comments! Poll next week at An Adventure in Reading! And come on guys, we can do better than just TWO suggestions this week, right? Of course right! :)

Bookword Game: Winner and New Word!

Congratulations to Julie from A Small Accomplishment. Her pick A History Mystery is the new bookword to describe a book where the characters from the present are researching the characters from the past.

Now let's find a word to describe this scenario:

What should we call a book that makes you interested enough in its topic that you are inspired to go and do some more research on it?

Suggestions in the comments!!

Bookword Voting Going on Now!

Oh my, I almost forgot it was my turn to do the Bookword Game today! And there's a bunch of cool bookwords to choose from today, so good luck with that! :)

The word we need to come up with today is this:

What should we call a  book with plots both in the past and the present  with characters from the present looking at and researching  the lives of the characters from the past?

Here are this week's players with their suggestions:

A BookSlip Novel: from Jenny's Books
A FlashBook from One Librarian's Book Reviews
A Now and Then Book from Arcona
A Parallel Lines Book from An Adventure in Reading
Historical Friction from Reading, Writing and Retirement
A Time Chaser Booker from A Small Accomplishment

And here's the poll:

A New Bookword Winner!

Congratulations today goes out to Bybee who suggested this week's winning bookword. The new word, which received 52% of the vote, is:

Anticipage: a book that you are anticipating so much, the anticipation has become part of the excitement of the book.

Now, the next word we need to figure it, is a word that describes a person and not a book. What should we call a person who has the same taste in books as you do? I've heard a popular term for this used quite bit, so let's see if that one appears, or if you come up with something completely different.

Comment with your suggestions! Thanks to all those who participate every week. We love that you have fun with the game. The poll will be up next week over at An Adventure in Reading.

Announcing a New Bookword!

After voting for the word that describes a book that makes you want to travel to its setting, we have a winner!

A Wanderlust Novel... suggested by Arcona of course, our stalwart faithful bookword game player.... is crowned the new bookword of the week!

But wait, now it's time for new suggestions for another word. This week, in honor of Valentines Day, let's find a word that describes a book you totally fall in love with. A book you want to hug to your chest and cherish forever! I always call this kind of book "one of my all-time favorites" which is obviously kind of a mouthful. So, let's get creative and figure out the perfect word for those books we love.

Comment with suggestions... don't be shy... go for it! :)

Bookword Game: Now Voting!

Last week, we asked for a new Bookword over at An Adventure in Reading. Good thing Arcona is paying attention, because she was the only one to comment with suggestions! But luckily, she has a lot of suggestions, so please vote for your favorite so we can have a new bookword that describes a book that makes you want to travel to its setting. Pretty much every book is this kind of book for me.

Bookword Results and a New Word

I must say, it's been a weird week for me and the Bookword Game. Firstly, I royally messed up the poll, redid it and therefore lost all the first day's voting. (Hopefully most of you came back and re logged your vote.) Secondly, I submitted an idea word, which to me is weird to begin with, but I suppose sometimes we should participate in our own game? I don't know.

So then it became a show down between my word (A Crossover Book) and Arcona's word (Auld Lang Syner.) I begged for a tiebreaker vote and suddenly, my word is the winner!

Weird. Or as the kids say.... awkward.

So.... a book that you start reading in one year, and finish up in the next year will now be known as a Crossover Book!

Moving on....

For our new word, let's think of one that describes the situation when you are reading a book, and you end up being able to only picture the character as the actor that portrays that character.

Such as will the face of Colin Firth forever be Mr. Darcy to you? Or will Harry Potter always have the face of Daniel Radcliffe, even if you read half of the series before the movie? Then there's those Twilight guys of course. Could you go back and read Twilight again without picturing them?

What should we call this particular phenomenon?

As always, comment with your suggestions!

Bookword Voting Now Open

Okay, time to vote for another Bookword! (Do you all realize it's been almost a year since the Bookword Game was started? Wow.)

Raidergirl3 at An Adventure in Reading last week asked us:

What do we call a book that we start reading this year, and finish next year? (Even if that happens over a day or so between December and January?)

We got a few suggestions:

A Bridge Book from
Sprite
A Crossover Book from
Suey
A Two-Timer from
Megan
A Leap Year Book also from
Megan
An Auld Lang Syner from Arcona
A Splitbook from Mumsy

The poll will be open for a week. So be sure and vote now!

UPDATE: I had to edit the poll! Which, of course, started the voting all over! So, if you already voted, you need to vote again. Sorry people. My brain is MIA.

Alright! I finally got a tie breaker for the Bookword vote of the week. So the winner for the word describing a book with a bad cover is:

A Mis-covered Book suggested by Arcona!
Congratulations!

The next word that needs discovering is: what should we call a book that makes you sleepy. Very.... very.... sleepy....... Every time you read it your eyes just want to close and take a break.

Comment with your suggestions! Thanks for participating.

The Bookword Game: Winning Word and a New Word

And the winner is...

A Throne Tome:
A book that's good to read in the bathroom!

Congratulations to CarrieK of Books and Movies for coming up with the winning word!

For our next word, let's think of something to describe a book that has a very distinctive smell. Perhaps it smells so good that you find yourself constantly sticking your nose all the way in and taking a big whiff. Or maybe it smells so bad that you find yourself stopping to put the book down because you feel a headache coming on!

What should we call a book that has such a distinctive smell that we find it distracting?

Comment with your suggestions! Don't be shy! Voting will be next week at An Adventure in Reading.

The Bookword Game: Voting Results!

This last week we voted to choose a word that describes an author that you can always count on for a good read. And the winning word is:

Reliascribe!

suggested by Megan from Leafing Through Life. Congratulations Megan! Thanks for playing!

Now it's time for a new word.

This week, we need suggestions for a bookword that describes a book that is "unputdownable." What do we call a book that makes you read chapter after chapter long after you decided to quit for the night. In the past, we may have called this a page turner, but it's time for a new word! That one is old and cliche!

Comment with your suggestions here. Don't be shy. Next week be sure to drop by An Adventure in Reading for the voting.
