Kdrama Review: My Love From the Star

Drama: My Love From the Star (though it's known by many different names.  So confusing! Click on the link to find all the episodes!)
Genre: Romantic Drama/Comedy
Starring: Kim Soo Hyun, Jun Ji Hyun, Park Hae Jin
Rating: ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

While this one is still funny, a lot funny, it is much more drama filled then the last one I told you about. Thus, the duel description above. Both drama and comedy. Which is awesome.

This is the story of Do Min Joon, who happens to be an alien. See, he came from his planet 400 years ago and got stranded on Earth. He's been waiting ever since for a chance to go home. And now, suddenly, that chance is here... in just three months from the time this story opens.

He's learned a ton of interesting things during his stay here, and in fact, he's extremely smart and rich and cool. But one thing he hasn't experienced... love and family. And now, just when it's about time for him to go home, love moves in RIGHT NEXT DOOR!

Love moves in!
This girl just  happens to be the most famous actress in Korea at the moment. Well.. until she's not. And this girl also just happens to have all the characteristics that he hates! And of course, he's attracted. Like really attracted. But does he plan on telling her this? No way Jose! He's going to remain calm, and cool and collected and show no emotion whatsoever, because does he need this complication in his life right when he's about to go home?

NO! He does NOT!!

Poor Professor Do! (Because yes he's a college professor at the moment and wouldn't you know it, our actress decides right this very now to take a class and guess who's class she ends up in? I bet you can't guess!!!)
Professor Do Min Joon

Sigh. Things get complicated. Very complicated. And not only is he fighting to not like this girl, he's also somehow managed to get himself all mixed up in a mystery surrounding her and the murder (maybe? suicide? maybe? who knows??) of her so-called friend.

And now, he has to figure it all out. Because for some reason, he must help her out.

But he's not going to fall for her. Of course, he's not.

This is Do Min Joon not falling....LOL!

Professor Do! You can't hide it for long!

This is Do Min Joon giving up and falling...

Ah! So good! And then, at the end. Oh my word. Bring a kleenex.

Here's some scenes set to the theme song. Sorry it's not English subbed, but you'll get the feeling of it!

  1. This one sounds intriguing. Maybe a good one to start with???

    1. Jenny: Megan says no no no do not start with this one. She didn't like the guy until episode 15 because he tried to hide his emotions for that long. It was a long slow journey for them to get together and it made her crazy. I, however, enjoyed the ride.

  2. I just don't know if I want to start a new one. I want to rewatch Oh My Venus. Or at least the last half of it. I guess I liked it a lot, but not enough to branch out or become obsessed.

    1. Jenni: It's only because it was your first one! Just remember, the others that are out there to watch are just as good, even BETTER than this one. And they are all just waiting waiting waiting for you to push the button and enjoy them! One doesn't have to become obsessed, just... when you are in the mood for a swoony romance, then... you know where to find one. :)

  3. I love this! And yes, this one has WAY more drama and angst than Oh My Venus. I confess to skipping through a lot of it and just enjoying the romancy swooniness! Because oh my stars, the SWOON. I remember reading somewhere just before the drama came out that the actors had a lot of chemistry together, based on a movie they'd done and man were they right!!! :D I also admit that I wasn't so sure about the leading lady character (blanking on her name currently...) at first, she was a bit too idiotic I thought. But she grew on me and I rather liked her a great deal by the end.

    Great review! (As always. :)

    1. Kara: Agreed! About the swoon and the craziness of the girl character and yet how she grows on you. Yep yep yep. I hope to rewatch sometime for the swoony bits. :)

  4. I just finished watching this one. I don't think I've cried this much watching any other drama (well, maybe during The Princess' Man). It was so good! I agree that the leads have a lot of chemistry. (Swoon...sigh.)

  5. While I really like this drama I feel like I should love it because it has so many things go for it. It has a really swoon worthy love story with a modern day fairy tale feel to it, both the leads and the second leads are interesting characters whose stories I felt invested in. The female lead of this drama was my third favorite female lead for quite awhile but on the other hand this drama was the first time drama where I was more invested in the second male lead than the first although I still didn't ship him with the female lead. The only really bad thing about this drama was that the villain came across as a bit of cartoon, so while agree that this is a very good drama it just didn't grab me in the same way that most other dramas I've watched have.
