The Book Thief Read Along Starts.... NOW!

Hey everyone! Welcome to the kick off post for The Book Thief Read Along! Are you ready for an awesome journey? A heart wrenching, deeply moving, unique perspective of World War II? An experience with words like you've never had before? And... a grand old time reading with other book blogging buddies?

I am SO ready!

Yes, today begins the read along (or re-read along, you know, if you've already read it!) of the most amazing book, The Book Thief, by the most brilliant author, Markus Zusak. If you've never read this book before and have been putting it off and off and off, we are so glad you've decided to join in and finally, once and for all, get it read!

If you have already fallen in love with this book and are, like me, happy and willing to read it over and over and over again, then  we are glad to have you join us also, and please do share your feelings, both previous and current, about this very emotional book!

If you've never participated in a read along before, than COOL! I'm so glad you decided to give it a shot with us! The idea of a read along is very simple. Here's what you need to know:

1. Read along with us! Follow the schedule (see below) if you can, but if you can't, no worries. Just remember no spoilers if you read ahead!

2. Come and participate in the discussions. We'll have three throughout the month of September. You can participate by commenting on that post... or posting your own thoughts on your blog and linking up.

3. Participate on Twitter discussions! We'll have three official ones that coincide with the three discussion posts. Whoever is in charge of that discussion (Kathy, Kami or me) will host the chat, so stay tuned for details about the chats as they get closer.

4. Tweet all during the month about your immediate impressions of the book, as you are reading, in real time. I plan to tweet quotes that jump out and/or any thing that moves me, as I'm reading! I would love to have you all join me in this.

Don't forget, our tweets for this read along will be using the hashtag: #bookthief. How's that for simple and straightforward?

Here's a reminder of the schedule:

September 1: START!
September 10: FIRST discussion! Read through Part 3: Suey will host discussion here on this blog and host a Twitter chat the following day, Sept. 11, at 11:00 am Mountain Time!
September 20: HALF WAY discussion! Read through Part 6: Kami will host discussion on her blog and host a twitter chat. She will announce on her bog when that will be!
September 30: FINAL discussion! Finish the book: Kathy will host final discussion on her blog and host a twitter chat. She will announce on her blog when that will be!

Did you catch when that first twitter chat will be? September 11 at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time! We'll discuss the first three parts of the book and your impressions so far! Please join us using #bookthief! Also, be sure to follow me, @SueySays. That will make things easier too! :)

So, enjoy! Happy #bookthief reading! I'll see you on twitter all month long, and then back here on the 10th for lots of talk!

  1. Woo! I am so ready!! I'm going to try and read it with my hubby this time through. He was listening to the audiobook, and only made it 1/2 way through before we had to return it.

  2. I'm excited! I'll participate in the discussions posts and I'll try to participate in the Twitter chats, but I already know I can't make the Sept. 11 one. Darn work! But, I'll tweet my impressions! :)
