Armchair BEA: My Fun Non-Bookish Life

Well, I must say I'm completely baffled by how to participate in today's Armchair BEA prompt! Yesterday I noticed many people having the same issue with the prompt! I guess it's my turn today! :)

The topic today is what you do beyond your actual blog. Freelancing, monetizing, that sort of thing. I've actually never been interested in either of these things. To me, this would cross the line of the blog being a for fun hobby to being a job. Maybe someday I'll be willing to cross that line, but for now, I don't need that kind of stress and/or pressure, so I'm content to keep it a hobby. A BLAST of a hobby, a consuming hobby, a crazy hobby, but still... very much a hobby!

Which brings us to the second prompt which says... if none of that applies to you then write about "fun aspect about your blog or life that may be completely separate from books!" Ummm....what about my blog or life is separate from books? Let me count the ways:
  • laundry (you should see the pile behind me right now!)
  • dinner (or not... that is the question)
  • cleaning toilets (or if not actually cleaning them... THINKING about cleaning them!)
  • homework (though thankfully we have a reprieve now for three months!)
  • big kid stress (what should my career be? whom should I marry? you know... THAT sort of stress!)
  • music (pondering buying the Gotye album, for real)
  • movies (just rented The Vow last night)
  • TV (The Buffy Watch, for instance)
  • projects (currently creating the cozy corner, remember?)
  • movie copying (currently on tape #15 out of about 120 tapes)
  • gardening (or keeping a garden barely alive)
  • working at the library (bills, folding brochures, post office runs, card making, etc.)
  • extreme grocery shopping (I seem to buy the same stuff over and over again, every other day!)
  • directing kid traffic ("where are you going? when will you be home? who will you be with? what are you going to do?")
  • wedding present buying (four weddings this week. June, anyone?)
  • other projects (writing letters every day, taking pictures every day, making a quilt because of Pinterest, you know... that sort of thing.)
  • church responsibilities (ie. girls camp cook which means cooking three meals a day for 30 girls and leaders for four days on a Coleman gas stove, after getting no sleep because it will be on a cot in the same room with giggling 12/13/14/15 year old girls! Wow! I'm SO excited!)
In other words, there's not much about my life beyond the blog, that's not book related, that you, my readers, would find fun and interesting! It's all just boring, normal life.

My bored kids, waiting with me at the pharmacy!
Normal and boring it may be, but you will still find me blogging about it here, a lot, anyway, because that's what makes up the "life's other adventures" part of my blog title, and I find it somehow cathartic to truly think of them as adventures and share them with you all!

Now, I have no idea if I addressed the question, (somehow I feel as if  I've just done another intro post!) but there you go! My Life Beyond the Blog!

    1. Julie: Mine is going to, for the first time. Last year would have been her first, but we were gone. Sadly, she is not looking so much forward to it. Maybe it's my attitude? Hmmm....

  2. I agree, trying to monetize and all that would make blogging seem too much like a job. And I am ALSO thinking about buying the Gotye cd, cause I am loving that "Somebody I Used to Know" song.

  7. Oh, I had missed that second part of the question, though it might be a good thing since it would have probably just led me back to talking about Community, my new TV obsession. And I already did that on my blog. Though I do talk about ways in which my blog has taught me skills that effected my life, so that's something.

  8. I love it! I would probably have done the same thing with that prompt. I wonder what you'll think of The Vow. It wasn't my favorite...or did you already watch it?

  9. I was going to do the same thing with today's prompt. But, on the linky post, I noticed this: "Has blogging opened up opportunities for you beyond getting free, advance copies of new books? Has it helped you get offers to write or review elsewhere (maybe even for pay)? Have you gotten invites to special events or places you might not have been to otherwise?" So, I went with the "invites to special events or places" thing.

  10. Love your post! I think it makes you very easy to relate to because most of us have the same kind boring life. Except cooking for girl's camp all week -- yikes! :)

(And I admit I have absolutely no idea what "monetizing" means!)

  11. You do so much outside of the blog! I would love to work in a library! And writing letters everyday? Do you write to anyone in particular? I've been trying to brush up on correspondence and really need to use pen and paper, rather than internet. It's too easy to rely on it for everything!

    Great post. :)
