Once again, this is a list I did, on my own, a couple of years ago. Back then, this is what I listed:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Most of that would stay the same. But I thought this week I'd do another list, with more recent books I've read that might fit this category. On that list I'd put:
The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Bruiser by Neal Shusterman
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelsen
My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters by Sydney Salter
The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
Truly, I think this list is simply a list of all time favorite books, don't you think? Do you find that the ones you want to read again for the first time are your favorites?
There are certain books I always wish I hadn't read already because then I could read them again for the first time. The Crimson Petal and the White is a great example. I stumbled across that one the other day and I loved it when I read it a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat a a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think about what would be on my list.
I think one might be Ender's Game, simply for the twist--that's a first-time reading that you'll never get back.
You've got several I haven't read at all.
I have a few on my list from your 1st list - but your 2nd list gave me lots of good ideas. Some of the books I would read again for the 1st time are my favorite books - but there are some where I would want to read them again because I feel like I missed some of the details the 1st time around.
ReplyDeleteGood lists! (I'll be adding a few titles to my to-read list.)
ReplyDeleteI think my "read again for the first time" list would be primarily books that had a twist that completely took me by surprise or that deeply moved me; it'd be wonderful to have those experiences again!
Ah, so cool that you have My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters on there. That book was fun and I loved its message.
ReplyDeleteI didn't join today. I don't think there are any books I'd want to read again for the first time. I love re-reading them KNOWING I love them and it doesn't change the enjoyment level except to heighten it. But it's still to early for THAT conversation. ;)
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love both your lists!
ReplyDeleteHere is my post:
Top Ten Picks!
A lot of good books here! I've got my eye on I Am The Messenger.
ReplyDeleteMy list was ALL old favorites, though I guess no one wants to read books they hated for the first time again :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, those favorites that you think about again and again are books that I would reach for in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI agree, my list is made up of some of my all time favorite books!
ReplyDeleteFor sure. The books I wish I could read for the first time are mostly the books that I loved. :)
