Books Discussed at Book Club October 2011

Once again, the monthly report of books we talked about at book club (not our main discussed books which will be in a separate post):

Alissa continued to enjoy Jessica Day George's books, specifically Princess of Glass, a spin off from Princess of the Midnight Ball which she talked about last time. She also read and enjoyed (though it was sad she said) Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford.

Our newest book club member, Karen who has just recently come to live here from New Zealand, is reading The Art of Crossing Cultures” 2nd edition by Craig Storti. She says, "I liked it because obviously it's very pertinent now, but also provides a very useful model to explain country and culture shock and then how to solve the problem of it. It also provides a good reading list of travel books (which I like) from different periods & countries. One reviewer said “….the selected quotations from literary sources are themselves worth the price of the book."

Jessica N, our other book club member who keeps us informed of non-fiction books, is reading  NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman

Jenny has just finished Crossed by Ally Condie (says it was a filler/middle book) and The DUFF by Kody Keplinger which she stayed up late to finish in one sitting.

Julie re-read both Golden by Cameron Dokey and Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken, because it was just one of those months.

Jenni read The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney, which she didn't particularly like, and is also still working on To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee, a book she agrees with the world, is wonderful!

Suey recently finished Entwined by local author Heather Dixon, another 12 dancing princesses retelling, and loved it.

  2. Thanks for the recap! I'm glad you list the books that everyone read so that we can add them to our TBR lists if we want to. I'm trying not to add more ... impossible. ;)
