Holiday Reading Plans: 100 or Bust!

It's the 20th of the month and I have yet to finish a book for December! That is just, just, weird! And so things really must change for these next two weeks if I'm to make it to 100!

First off, should I care about that 100 number so much? I feel silly caring, but still, somehow I do, a little bit. So last night, I made a plan. My plan is to read short easy fluffy books so I can fit in a bunch before the year ends!

That's not to say I'm forgetting about my two big books that I've been working on all month, no, I will still read them too, but I'm going to fit in some short fluffs somehow, in addition!

So I dug through my piles and hauled out these (actually some of these aren't very fluffy, but they are short):

The Secret of Life of a Teenage Siren by Wendy Toliver
The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt
Freshman for President by Ally Condie
The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

Plus I expect to get a few for Christmas that I should easily devour shortly thereafter.

So what do you think? Can I read/finish nine books in the next two weeks? Should I even try? Do I care? Do you care? Are numbers silly? Or fun?

Wish me luck!

  1. Go for it! I met my goal of 50 but am going to fall short of my updated goal of 85.

  2. Well, The House on Mango Street is really short. That should help you get through them quicker!

  3. I don't want to overgush, but Wednesday Wars is one of my very favorite books, so I hope you get to that one!

  7. Teresa: Well, at least you made your first goal! That's awesome.

Jeane: Yes, it does look like a quick one. And one that's been on my shelf, for many many years.

Shelley and Becky and Gerbera: Well, it appears that's going to have to be one of the very first ones to bite the dust!

    kel.light: THANKS!

  8. Of course you should try! And it doesn't really matter, but there is something about finishing the list. (This from the reader who picked up Pigman's Legacy by Zindel and the very short mystery A Compelling Case by Underwood at the library to try and finish the A to Zed challenge that I gave up on two months ago as undoable.)
    Yeah, we're not crazy.

  9. Just do your most important things first...like enjoy yourself!! If that includes reading your big ones then do that. If that includes getting to a number goal, do that. But enjoy your time more than anything. You are already doing what's the important stuff - family!! Enjoy, life's too precious not to.

    Merry Christmas!

  12. Great list to help you make that 100 mark. I have been a bit slow with my reading for the last two months, but am looking forward to winter break when all I really have to do is read. It will also help me stay out of the stores and stop me from spending money. Definitely a win win!

    You go girl!

  13. I'll put in a vote for Wednesday, too. Loved it. And you know I love Ally - and Milo is a great hero in "Freshman" - he's darling. And numbers are great. For a totally non-type-A girl, I'm really discovering my love of numbers. Words produced per day = self esteem. I know that's not healthy, but it is within my power.
    Merry Christmas!

  14. You can do it!! And I would do something just like that if it would help me meet a goal. :) I am just happy anymore to finish 50 books in a year.

  15. About a week ago I gave up...I gave up with reading, and how many books I would complete. I just cannot read much at all...too many things going on. heck...I hardly have time for commenting too. I have managed to blog, but that is because my ideas for posts would drive me mad if I did not actually write them, and post them. ha.
Okay...I just checked my bookmark (this is where I log books I read), and I have finished one book. Oh my gosh, I should not have looked...that is depressing!! I hear you about feeling silly about caring about the number of books read. I tell myself over and over again for the last several months that the number does not matter...but it does to me. You had me laughing with " My plan is to read short easy fluffy books so I can fit in a bunch before the year ends!" That was my thought too...last week....until this week hit and I have read very, very little. The only thing that is saving my number lusting mind is that I did switch over to the audiobook of The Fires in Heaven...doing that has enabled me get pretty far into the book...listening to while cleaning, and organizing has been helpful. I am on chapter 42, if you are curious..thinking you are.
I think you will plow through a few books, but nine may be a bit much considering that this week tends to be rather busy for most people. If you do...fantastic...if you don't...no worries, but I get your number worry...january is around the corner...a new start. :)

By the way, how is it going? It has been a few days since you posted...are you reading a bit more? More importantly...how is Fires coming along???
