Authors Pick Five: Matthew Kirby

After recently reading and loving Matthew Kirby's book, The Clockwork Three, I knew I wanted to get his five "most important and influential" book picks quickly!

Here's what he had to say:

It's difficult to pick just five, but in no particular order, and with the disclaimer that this list could easily be ten or twenty books longer, and is prone to change on a regular basis:

A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin - the book that inspired me to be a writer
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr. - science fiction that never loses sight of our humanity
Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco - the only way a "true" secret history should be written
Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang - some of the smartest science fiction out there
Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock - fantasy at its most primal

He added this disclaimer on the end: With the exception of Le Guin, all are adult titles. Some have mature content, so just FYI.

I don't know about you, but that makes me want to check out those unfamiliar titles even more! :)

Though Matt was born in Utah, he has lived all over the place as he followed his Navy father from here to there. However, he has settled back in Utah with his wife where he also works as a school psychologist when he's not writing. The Clockwork Three is his first published book, well, except for that comic book he wrote and printed one copy of at Kinko's back in high school! If you want to learn more about him and keep up with his writing life, here's the link to his blog.

Anyway, just one more awesome Utah author to add to my never ending list! I can't wait to read more from him.
