Music Stuck in My Head: Awesome Eighties!

We're having a bit of an 80s revival at our house. My daughter has lately discovered just how completely awesome the music from this era (yes, my era!) was! Now, my list of favorites is miles long, I thought I'd share a few of them here (complete with memories) so you too can join us in loving (remembering?) this fun music.

Back in the 80s music videos were just born. MTV was brand new (and decent still) with this cool music video thing going on. If a friend was lucky enough to have cable, we would often spend our evenings watching these videos. Here's one that I remember from those MTV evenings:

When I first started dating my husband (yes in high school) he gave me the 45 (raise your hand if you know what that is!) of this song. So, obviously, it reminds me of the beginning of our high school sweetheartness!

There was a dance, it was girls choice. I was junior, he was a senior. He was so cute, and I wanted so bad to ask him, but alas, I never had the guts. This song was the theme for that dance, and will forever remind me of my chickening out moment!

Nothing says 80s like a-ha... nothing:

Well, I could go on and on, but I'll stop at four. What songs do think I should have included? What songs bring back crazy memories for you (80s or not)?

  1. You made my day with this post!! Take On Me is one of my favorite songs ever!! I love the 80s but I was in high school in the 90s so my memories come from those songs. I'm definitely going to do a post like this soon =)

  2. Oh my gosh Suey...I am so in the 80's mood these past few weeks! Matter of fact, my next few song of the week posts are going to be about the 80's! How funny, you beat me to the punch! Ha!

No way...You have Ah-ah!! I loved that song AND it is one of the songs I have been hearing a lot these last few weeks. When this video came out, I was very much into music videos (the creation of them) and I loved this one. It was original.

Something about 80's music brings a smile to my face even the stuff that I did not care much for back then. I have discover though that eventually, after hearing the songs I didn't like over and over again on the radio that indeed I still do not like them even after all these years.

When (if) you read my song of the week posts - highlighting some 80's songs - do know that I did not rip you off! LOL

  5. My music era was the late 60's and early 70's. Peace out. I also was quite fond of the Motown sound of the 50's. But I do remember really liking the video for Take On Me.

  6. I'd forgotten about many of these. I always thought Down Under was funny and no one knew what a Vegemite sandwich was. (We eat the English version - Marmite in our family).

  8. Oh, I adored A-ha. Still really like that song. I've been dreaming in 80s songs, waking up with one on my mind... Hungry Like a Wolf, Africa, Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Makes you wonder just what it is that I'm dreaming! :-D
