August Reading Recap

YES! It's September! I love that it's approaching the fall season. It's a wonderful time of year! :)

Here's what I managed to read this month. Hmmm... not such a big list. I suppose August was a little busy, yes?

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa: Meghan finds out that the world she's been living in is not what it seems, and that she actually belongs to another world altogether.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert: The author writes of her experiences when she takes off for a year of travel in Italy, India and Indonesia.

Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr: Sam struggles with her faith because of events happening around her, both in the world at large, and her own family.

A Conspiracy of Kings by Megan Whalen Turner: Gen's friend, Sophos, is caught up in the middle of much political plotting and maneuvering.

Mistwood by Leah Cypess: Isabel, a shapes hifter sworn to protect the king, is finding that she is confused about where her loyalties lie.

Children of God by Mary Doria Russell: We learn about what happened on the planet Rakhat after the first mission left.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: The rebellion against The Capitol begins with Katniss as its symbol... The Mockingjay.

The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller: All her life Haven has had visions of another life. When she finally decides to investigate, she's not sure she likes what she learns!

My favorites of the month: Eat Pray Love, Children of God and Mockingjay.

In looking back, I pretty much accomplished my plans from last month, except for that darn TBR Challenge list! Here are my plans for this next month:
  • Stay on track with the Bleak House read along.
  • Finish Wheel of Time book four, The Shadow Rising.
  • Make a dent in Fall of Giants.
  • Read a book or two for RIP.
  • Read (or at least start) The Wizard of Earthsea for book club.
  • See what's being promoted at the book fair in Oct. and read a couple of those!
  • Will The Clockwork Three make it to me this month? If so, I will read it!

How did your month go? What plans do you have for next month?

  1. Sounds like a good list! I read Eat, Pray, Love a couple of years ago when it first came out, but I wasn't that wild about it. The author seemed kind of self-centered to me.

  2. Like Kate, I wasn't a big fan of Eat, Pray, Love but I think I am probably in the minority.

  3. Several books that you read in August are on my list to read. I don't know if I will get myself to finish Eat, Pray, Love. I am glad that you liked it but I just can't get over the whole India period where she was very self-focused...it felt to self-reliant that she can find peace with no other greater help such as God.

Conspiracy of King is a must read for me...I really need to get that book into my home.

Mockingjay is sitting in my daughter's room...mocking me. Maybe in a week or two I will finally read the book. Although, I am starting to not care whether I read it or not.

I think that I should read The Sparrow so that I can see why you liked Children of God. I am intrigued by these books.

I wish you lots of fun as you make your way through this month's plans.

My month was pretty good, and I will post about it soon...I hope.
