What I Did On My Spring Break and other Randomness
Last week we took off for spring break and drove 11 hours to play for four days in San Diego. Wow, it was beautiful there! We got sun burned even! We experienced sailing for our first time ever and it was a blast. The kids loved the zoo... a zoo unlike any other. We also had fun experiencing "Saturday in the Park" as the song goes.... Balboa Park that it. Wow, it was hopping there. And we did the beach of course. On an overcast, windy afternoon of course! But still, it was the beach!
Anyway, we are home. I read nearly two books while gone. Finished one just now, and the other needs a few more pages to be called finished. I bought a book too. Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson. Anyone heard of it? It takes place down there in old San Diego. It sounds very intriguing. So, that was my souvenir buying for the trip. Oh, and a little muffin cookbook too. :)
I listened to TONS of Books on the Nightstand episodes on the way home (yes it took 11 hours to get home too. Dang!) And now I'm totally excited to read The Passage which showed up in my mailbox a few weeks ago. Wow, Michael and Ann nearly hyperventilated they were so excited about this book! When THE HECK am I going to fit it in? It's HUGE!
I'm scared to death of Google Reader. All those readathon posts and all. How'd it go? Did you all have a blast? Did you skip it this year, or read a ton? If you read along, comment with the BEST book you read during the readathon. Anyway, I'm going to try and see what you've all been up to this week, even if it's a bit daunting.
Today, I came home from the library with two books, and got another one in the mail. Seriously. I think I truly have gone over the edge of sanity here.
This week it's book club at my house already! Wow, time flies. But it is the third Thursday this week, right? We'll be discussing Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. I'm very curious to see what everyone thought. I'll let you know!
Well, I managed to sneak in a little post! But now I have to make dinner, keep the laundry going and continue to clean up the after trip mess. Don't you hate that? But I'll be back soon to make my Listless Monday list!
What a great getaway!! I would love to go back and visit SD. We lived there about 20 years ago and loved every minute of it. Even better, everybody always came to visit. We hoped they wanted to see us, but we really knew that they wanted the sites!!
ReplyDeleteI missed reading your daily posts but am happy that you snuck in some reading...more importantly, some time with family! I hope you made some great memories. The photo looks like a memory-maker already!
I'm like you, here I have a pile of books, and I still come home with more. I guess there are worse addictions!!
Welcome home.
Looks like you had a nice getaway! I had to skip the readathon this time, because I was away myself. Just got back from a long weekend in Washington, DC, which was awesome, but I, like you, am in great fear of my Google Reader! It's out of control.....again.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! It sounds like you had a blast. I love the picture you posted. How bad was your Google Reader?
ReplyDeleteDid you get to Coronado? I went to SD last year to visit my brother, and we're hoping to back this summer and visit his new baby. Did you get to swim or was it too cold?
ReplyDeleteInside a Book: I think it would be the perfect place to live. Though after awhile I might miss the seasons.
ReplyDeleteMegan: My Reader is never in control! DC sounds fun too! :)
Michelle: I still haven't faced the Reader! Any second now....
Karen: We drove over to Coronado, but didn't get out and do much. I think everyone was hungry by then, and we decided it was too expensive there to stop and eat.
Welcome back! It sounds as though you had a fantastic time.
ReplyDeleteThe Passage sounds as though it is going to be one of the hits of the year - I look forward to reading it, although I'm scared by its length too.
I LOVE the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park - so glad you had a great time there (and everywhere else)!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm totally jealous that you got a copy of THE PASSAGE. That book sounds like it is going to be SO GOOD.
