The Sunday Salon: Book Fair and other randomness

We set up the book fair last Friday, and one of the perks of running the book fair is being able to take home a couple of books to peruse beforehand in order to promote and push them once the fair starts. At first, I wasn't going to nab any, especially since this time I won't be doing book talks (cheers for Michelle!) but at the last minute, I couldn't help it and I grabbed the following:

The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
Models Don't Eat Chocolate Cookies by Erin Dionne
Every Soul a Star by Wendy Mass

So today, maybe I'll have to time to read bits and pieces of these, or get drawn into one and even finish it.

Or maybe not. We'll see.

Another interesting thing to report, and some of you will laugh at this, but I got my first unsolicited book from a publisher this week! Cool, huh. I know, this is old hat to most of you big time bloggers, but I haven't been aggressive with getting my name on the lists to receive these things, so to just get one out of the blue made me grin.

The book is called The Vagrants by Yiyun Li. It looks very interesting, so hopefully I'll be able to fit it in the stack soon.

Exciting stuff coming up this week! Check Raidergirl3's blog at An Adventure in Reading, probably Wednesday, to find out about a fun game we've got planned for you all!

Wish me luck on the book fair this week. Luck that it's successful, luck that I'll have enough the energy, luck that my family is forgiving. You know, just luck that I'll manage to get to the end of the week in one piece!

Happy Super Bowl to some of you. Happy Reading to the rest!

  1. Our book fair starts Friday. I'm hoping to find Every Soul and Striped Pyjamas there.

  2. I hope the book fair goes well this week. That's a great perk, being able to preview some of the merchandise. ;-)

I was pleasantly surprised to find The Vagrants in my mailbox this past week too. I'll be eager to read your thoughts on it.

  5. Erin: Gosh! If an author actually comes and comments on my blog THAT fast, you know I'm going to have to read it now! :) This one is actually the one I read the most of today. But it's turned out to be bad reading day time-wise after all, sadly. Anyway, thanks for the comment!

Literary Feline: I bet they did a big blitz of any and all bloggers they had addresses for it sounds like. Soon there'll be a gazillion posts about this book floating out there! Which is the whole point, right?

Debnance: Good luck! Let me know how your book fair goes!

  6. Chan: Oh, funny, we posted at the same time nearly, and now it looks as if I left you out! Yes, book fairs are fun! Lots of work to run, but fun anyway.
