Book Review Discussion: Mania by J.R. Johansson

Book: Mania by J.R. Johansson
Genre: YA SciFi
Rating:★ ★ ★ ☆☆
For: Utah Book Month
From: Received for free from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Short Synopsis: This is the third in the Nightwalkers trilogy. Beware: some potential spoilers for the first two books might appear here! So, in this book we get to know Jack, Parker's half brother. The story alternates between both of their points of view. The task for this book is to find the cure for the Takers. They especially motivated to do this because the Takers have kidnapped Parker and will kill him if the cure is not found/created. Jack is frantic to figure it out.

My Repose: We also learn quite a lot about the dad of these two boys in this book. And I decided I didn't like him much. What cryptic man he was! So many secrets that messed up the lives of both of these boys! Also, Parker went through some pretty bad crap in this story that was hard for me to read... stuff bordering on (well okay not bordering!) torture... I hate that. :) But I did enjoy getting to know Jack more and he's a pretty decent dude! The dream sequences are cool and crazy and what an imagination to think up those scenes! I missed the Parker/Addie stuff but there was still some romantic tension going on in this one too. Yay for that1

Bottom Line: If you love psychedelic dream stories and page turning drama, you'll enjoy this book, and yes, the whole series. (Insomnia and Paranoia are the first two.)

Let's Talk About: Torture! Can you handle reading/watching this stuff? I think it's pretty much the worse thing for me in both books and TV/movies. I mean, I'm guessing it is for most people, but I really REALLY hate reading/watching it!

Other Reviews:

Wonderful ending to a very unique and entertaining series. I would highly recommend this to all YA Thriller fans! From Dark Faerie Tales

I thought Mania was a fantastic ending to a great series. From Jenni Elyse

All in all, Mania was a wonderful, gripping, and exciting end to such a fantastic series. If you haven't read this series, YOU MUST START NOW. It's engaging, cool and unique. From Oops! I Read a Book Again

I like both viewpoints, really helped to see just what was going on, as well as getting a look inside some of the characters you might not otherwise have had time to learn about. And it was so great getting back to Finn. I love Finn. From Lisa Loves Literature

  1. I don't like watching torture, but reading it doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because it's not vivid in my mind. That's why I thought the Unbroken movie was harder to watch than the book was to read, even though they toned by the movie. I'm a more visual person. I have to see it for it to impact me. (Unless it's animals of course, then I imagine the worst, lol.)
