8. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
9. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
10. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (though I have read half!)

I would agree with Tolstoy and Joyce on your list. I loved Canterbury Tales and have read some of the others.

Isn't Ulysses supposed to be the hardest book to read ever?I've read War and Peace and it's not that bad! The hardest part for me was keeping the characters straight, but I really liked it.

Only Lolita is intellectually challenging.
Tattoo - disturbing (looks long, reads *really* fast)
In Cold Blood - gruesome, disturbing, but a great read. It's speculated that Harper Lee wrote a lot of it!
Picoult - heart breaking, but again, really fast because you'll want to keep reading
that sounds like a big list of big books. I didn't care for "My Sister's Keeper". good luck with your reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I haven't read any of these because they're so intimidating. I plan to read a lot of them. But, I think I'll pass on Lolita. I don't think I could handle it.
ReplyDeleteIn Cold Blood is a really good book and not at all difficult (well, the topic is, but the writing itself flows well). It's a good way to start tackling the list :)
