Top Ten Tuesday: Best and Worst Movies!

And now I give you the best and worst movie adaptations. Well, at least the ones that came to mind at the moment.

The BEST:

1. To Kill a Mockingbird: Gregory Peck totally nailed that Atticus!

2. The Lord of the Rings... of course.

3. Holes is one of my all time favorite books to movies.

4. Pride and Prejudice... one that I'm sure everyone will be listing. (The BBC one of course.)

5. Harry Potter... almost all of them. I think they did an amazing job with this endeavor.

The WORST:

1. The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) Every thing was all wrong!! And it took out too many events and it added events that had nothing to do with the book.

2. Eragon: All wrong again. Just bad bad bad. Somehow, the movie totally lost the emotion of the book. How can they do that?

3. Ella Enchanted: It wasn't a bad movie, but it pretty much had nothing to do with the book, you know.

Hmmm... I'm sure there's many more bad ones, but that's all I can think of at the moment!

Agree or disagree? Check out everyone's lists at The Broke and the Bookish!

  1. We have similar lists! I should have listed Holes as well. I liked that one.

  2. I haven't seen Holes, I'll look out for that. The Help did a good job with the story except for a few changes, but books like Under the Tuscan Sun where the character's story was totally different was disappointing.

  3. Love the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice! One of my favourites. :) I've read Holes, but I don't think I've seen the movie ... maybe one day!

  4. To Kill a Mockingbird and LOTR definitely made my list. Eragon was so awful it made me stop reading the rest of the series, which isn't fair to the books.

  5. Ah, Percy Jackson! You're right. Movie was fun and I'm sure lots of little boys loved it but looking at it as an adaptation it was just disappointing. I feel the same way about Ella Enchanted. Love the book, love the movie, don't see how they relate other than the title. Great list!

  7. I'll agree with the 1, 2, and 7.1 movies for Harry Potter, but all the others sucked when it came to comparison to the books. BUT I still love them, lol, except 3. 3's adaptation pissed me off! Kay, I'll get off my HP high horse now, lol.

Yes, the BBC P&P is a very good adaptation. Plus, it has Colin Firth. Sigh. Although, I still think the actresses who played Jane and Charlotted should've been switched and that "Jane" looks like Alan Tudyk.

  8. I absolutely agree about Eragon: the film is really bad, but I haven't read the book.
And you have reminded me that I must watch the BBC version of Pride and Prejuice!

  9. P&P, LotR, and To Kill a Mockingbird - what a great list of good movie adaptations!!! I have a few others - North and South - Elizabeth Gaskell author, is very good, as is Bleak House with Gillian Anderson starring.

I'll have to think on worst film adaptations, there are so many!

  10. I loved Holes! It's one of the stories I liked better as a movie than as a book. And I share your complete disappointment with The Lightning Thief. It was very different and I don't think the differences made it a better movie.
