Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Would Save

The list prompt over at The Broke and the Bookish today is one that gets you thinking. What books would you save if there was a disaster at your house? You know, like a fire, or flood, or zombie apocalypse or alien invasion? To me these would be books that you cannot at all replace, that have great sentimental value. So the answers will be quite different than the old "what book would you want on a deserted island" one. So here's what I thought of:

What Books Would I Save?

1-4: All my signed Markus Zusak books! That's actually three (The Book Thief, I Am The Messenger, Getting the Girl) and also Underdogs, which isn't signed.... yet.
5 and 6: Both my husband and I have copies of Where the Red Fern Grows that our grandmas gave us and wrote in for us. Those would need saving.
7 and 8: At least a couple of my grandpa's old books from his boyhood about the X BarX boys!
9. My old beat up copy of Mr. Pine's Mixed Up Signs.
10. My old beat up copy of Great Expectations.

Well there's ten anyway. I keep thinking of more that should be on the list, but I guess I better stick to the required number!

What would you find yourself saving at the last minute?

  1. Gosh, that is really hard to narrow down to 10!

  3. I went way past the 10 and completely disregarded it. So hard to choose my favorites and I realized I forgot a few books at the top of my list. The signed and personally bought books need to be saved the most.

  4. I guess I should think of this before it actually happens, that way I won't be freaking out and indecisive during an emergency :) Love that you both have copies of Where the Red Fern Grows from your grandmas!

  5. I didn't do this list because 10 is such a limiting number for this one. Not only would I want to save special books like they ones you've listed, but I'd want to say scrapbooks, old family albums, scriptures, etc. I just hope nothing happens that will require me saving them!

  6. I think the only things I would save are my children's baby books and pictures of the pre-digital era. Not sure I have any books that I could not replace.

  8. See?! And I wouldn't have even thought about books with sentimental value. But my MZ books would be on my list signed or not. ;)

  9. I try not to think about this, I guess. My books are mostly in storage in my mother's basement, so I would probably not get to save much of anything if anything bad happened...
