Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Had To Buy But Haven't Read

This week's list prompt over at The Broke and Bookish is:

What books did you just HAVE to buy, but are still sitting on your shelf unread?

Hmmm... can I say... ALL of them? The whole shelf worth? No? Here's ten then:

1.The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls: any day now, seriously
2. People of the Book ... (and March for that matter) by Geraldine Brooks
3. Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson: this one looks small enough that I just might sneak it in somewhere
4. The March by E.L. Doctorow: this one ends up on lists to read, but I still never pick it up
5. The 13th Reality #3 (Blade of Shattered Hope) by James Dashner: I have no idea why this one hasn't been read yet
6. Drood by Dan Simmons: oh my word, HUGE! But what a fascinating subject. I need to read it!
7. The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull: we have two unread copies and other things just push them to the bottom
8. House of Spirits by Isabel Allende: I've loved her other books, so I want to add to her pile
9. Eon by Allison Goodman: the cover caught me and then I heard it was really good too
10. Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness: no explanation necessary! This series is amazing.

Which ones do I need to read NOW? What books are on your list?

  1. I've always wanted to read the Candy Shop Wars too. Nice list. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on

  2. The Glass Castle is SO good. And so is March (People of the Book was good just not quite as good).

  3. I just bought Dashner's first three 13th Reality books because they're in paperback and affordable at Costco. I've also purchased Clockwork Angel but haven't read it yet. I also just bought Bree Despain's "The Dark Devine" and "The Lost Saint" knowing I don't have time to read them. I've already lent them out.

  4. I really liked The Glass Castle.

March would be on my list... I have owned that book since it came out. Oh, and Drood. I need to read Drood this year, actually...

  5. I also have a pretty large TBR shelf(s) at my home library. The Glass Castle is definitely one I want to read! Have a great week!

  6. Yeah, can I say all of them too? I think I counted over 200 books I own and haven't read yet. Pretty sad. My list would include The Glass Castle too and the Mortal Instrument series. And...Wow I really have to many!

  7. The Glass Castle is REALLY good. It was a book group pick, and one night I couldn't sleep so I thought, I'll just read a little of this and nod off. I was up all night reading it! This should be at the top of that list of ten.

  9. I want to read The 13th Reality series. I've almost bought the first book a few times, but I know I don't have the time read it right now so I've refrained.

  10. I was a little disappointed by Drood, but it was still a fun read. Hope you like Wilkie Collins.

  11. My Gosh, I have 5 of the same books on my bookshelf that I had to buy but haven't read either. The only one on your list I did read was The Glass Castle. It was good but I always compare it to The Liars Club by Mary Karr which I liked better.

  14. Once again, most of you are making the most noise about The Glass Castle. I know, you think I will NEVER read it. But I will. Really. I will. :)

  15. I'm in the same boat as you are with this one, lots of books on my shelf which haven't been read, and my TBR list is sooooo long. I don't know how I'm going to manage it! ahhhh

  19. Um, MONSTERS OF MEN all the way. PEOPLE OF THE BOOK is pretty amazing, too. I've read MARCH, but I don't remember it knocking me off my feet.

  20. Just finished The Glass Castle and I really enjoyed it but as a mom, it will really make you angry! People of the Book was one of my fav books of 2009 and March is coming up soon for me.
