The Sunday Salon: Bits and Pieces

Outside my window: right now it's cool and fresh and dark. Today (today being Saturday) it was an awesome weather day. Rain, rainbows, thunder, sun, overcast, windows down.... we had it all.

I am listening to: it's pretty quiet this very moment, except for a hyper chirping bird that's really needing some attention. He hates me, so I'm not listening really....

I am watching: I already did a TV Talk moment last post, so I won't rehash. But, I did go see Red Riding Hood today. It was good. It was fun. I could see the Twilight comparisons everyone has been making. I loved the look of the whole thing. I loved the music and the special effects. I'm not used to being scared of the wolf.. usually I like the wolf. But yeah, scary this time.

I am thinking: that I could quite possibly miss that zapped hour this night. I just about forgot it was happening... thank you Twitter!

I am grateful for: Markus Zusak tickets. Yes, I went early. I sat on the step for an hour and almost half. It wasn't too cold and Jenny came too, so the time went by fast. We easily got tickets... and many people came all throughout the day... and also got tickets! So the early thing was a bit of an overkill, but the library led us to believe the won't last long. I bet they ran out before the day was done, but the lasted just fine through the morning!

I am reading: Lord of Chaos, No Going Back, Beyonders, and Mr. Monster... let's hope at least one of them gets finished this next week!

I am photographing: I took a few pictures and videos of the slumber party and birthday girl this past week. The husband took a bunch of tennis team pictures I'm sure. Those ones I bet are pretty nice since they were in an "exotic" location for those. I can't show you any of them, because they are all still in the camera and I'm too lazy to upload right now!

I am listing: names from this new Wheel of Time book, so we can keep track of people. Whew, it's a job. Why so many new people all of a sudden?

I am creating: hmmm.... I can't even create a creative response to the "I am creating" prompt.

On my iPod: I've been stuck on a playlist that circulates through just a handful of my "newish" albums... Prince of Persia soundtrack, Depeche Mode greatest hits, Adam Lambert both regular CD and acoustic CD, Josh Groban Illuminations, Canadian Tenors... and I think that's it.

I am hoping and praying: that Japan gets through it.

Around the house: it got messy during the party, but I was pretty vigilant about wiping up quickly afterwards. We had spilled soda, popcorn and candy every where, chocolate cake crumbs, pizza bits, and the flurry of waffle makings all over. But I think the house has recovered fairly well.

From the kitchen: the above mentioned waffles, along with buttermilk syrup, which every time we make we get recipe requests. Also, I made a Skor birthday cake, and two batches of cupcakes from cake mixes.

One of my favorite things from the week: besides movies, and cake, and birthdays, and tickets and reading? Yep, I think that's about it.

The children this week: One turned 12 as you may know by now... another went to down south on a tennis team trip and just got back all sunburned in the face. It's summer there!

Plans for the week: a Brandon Mull launch party hopefully, book club on Thursday, Persuasion (the play) on Saturday... I hope

On this date: in 2007 I was setting up this blog, but I hadn't quite gone public yet... which means this week is my blogiversary! Actually, I'm not sure what exact date I hit that public button, but it's close. Anyway, I have a bit of an idea for celebration, but am still pondering. Stay tuned.

Oh, and P.S..... if anyone is interested, here are the results of my one question poll of last week. What a beautiful little bell curve, don't you think? :)

Thanks to Ibeeeg of Polishing Mud Balls for the inspiration for this post's layout.

  1. Mmmm, Skor birthday cake sounds tasty. And Adam Lambert has an acoustic album? That sounds like something I need to look into...

  2. I just got back from The Tucson Festival of the Book where Brandon Mull and I became serious best friends. I reminded him that book bloggers could be stalkers and he said that stalking would be only if we were looking in his bedroom window. So I think I'm fine.

He was seriously hysterical, personable and a terrific presenter. When the kids started asking questions at the end he just lit up like a candle and it was electric. Perk of the day was the autographed Beyonders!! Thought of ya!!

Good job on the party AND the tickets!

  3. Megan: Yes, the cake is pretty good. And Adam has a small album with some songs from his first album redone acoustically. It's really cool.

Mandy: I will visit shortly! :)

Inside: I saw some of the festival on TV and thought of YOU! :) I have been reading Beyonders all day and hope to get my copy signed on Tuesday at the launch party. Sounds like you had a fun connection with him indeed! Way to go!

  4. That's weird that he added a bunch of new characters later into a series... That would probably bug me... Have a good week!
