Review: Spells by Aprilynne Pike

Book: Spells by Aprilynne Pike
Genre: YA Fantasy
Rating: A-
For: Fun
From: I bought it.

This book continues the story of Laurel and her discoveries about herself which began with the book Wings. In this book, we get to experience the faerie world of Avalon, and learn more about Tamani's background. Laurel spends the summer here learning and trying to catch up on all the stuff she's missed while growing up in the human world. Of course, there's still the problem of the trolls to deal with too.

Much of the book deals with the love triangle between Laurel, Tamani and David. So if you are completely and totally sick of such stories, you may want to wait awhile. But that being said, I do think this book gives you a good feeling of just how torn Laurel is. Despite that fact, she actually does make a decision in the end. However,  I think the spurned boy is not taking no for an answer, which gives this book an interesting cliff hanger feel.

I enjoyed getting to know Tamani more. I find him to be a very interesting character. And he continued to be full of surprises, because just as I thought we had his personality figured out, he went and acted in quite a uncharacteristic way.

Bottom line: Despite the slow start, in the end, I really enjoyed it!
