A Bit of Me(Me): Oh, The Places!

Today, Danielle, who hosts this fun meme over at There's a Book, asks this question:

If you could travel anywhere in the world for 24 hours, where would you go?

Okay, so this 24 hour thing is just too much of a limitation, don't you think? That's like barely long enough to escape to my mountains that are literally five minutes away! But that's not a bad idea, escape to the mountains for 24 hours, just me, my books, maybe some music, and lots of good food!

BUT, if I had a little longer? Here's what I'd do:

If I had TWO WEEKS, there's so many places I'd go. Some that top the list are:

  • The Boston area including Cape Code and Plymouth Plantation
  • The greater New England area
  • Prince Edward Island
  • French Canada
  • Ohio
If I had ONE MONTH I would travel all over mainland Europe. Wow there's so much I want to see there:
  • San Sebastian Spain and visit our family friend who's been begging for years for us to come.
  • Paris, just because
  • Switzerland, where my great grandpa is from
  • Italy, and eat just like Elizabeth Gilbert
  • Greece, ancient ruins and Pompeii
  • Austria, the Sound of Music of course
  • The Netherlands, and the Secret Annex, and where my great grandma is from
If I had a WHOLE SUMMER I would love to spend the whole thing in Great Britain. Here's what I'd do:
  • see every castle I can
  • breathe the air in Ireland and take tons of pictures
  • Camelot ruins, and any other Arthur "sites" I can find
  • Loch Ness
  • explore the moors
  • every literary site I can dream up
  • learn London inside and out
  • oh man, I guess that's a start. There's so much I can't even remember it all now!
Okay, so I cheated a little (a lot) on this question, but it was fun!

Where would you go?

  1. Noticed all your two week spots are out east! That's where I'd head as well--most of our vacations seem to be in the west. Fun meme!!

  3. All great places!! I'm from Ohio and just curious why you chose there.

I wish I could take 24 hours to go somewhere. Someday I might actually get to go on a real vacation.

  4. My mother is in PEI right now!! Her friend is there serving a mission and she went for a visit. She is having the time of her life. She says its beautiful. Definitely on my bucket list.

  5. If you ever get to do that Great Britain summer, take me with you, okay? ;-D

  6. Trish: Yes, I'm from the West, so we get to see that stuff all the time. It's the East I have not seen much of.

Jan: It would be so fun, wouldn't it!

Laura: Cool! Sounds like a blast!

    Megan: Okay! :)

  7. Vicki: Ohio is because my son is on an LDS mission there, and when he gets home in May, I'd love to turn around and go back with him to see all the people and places he's experienced there.

  8. You dream bit, girl! I'd love to be able to go to Europe, too, to visit the places my family is from.

  9. Yes, you cheated, but as long as you bring me along I will let you slide this time:)

  10. That sounds heavenly! All of it. Jenny is going to the Oregon coast for a week and won't take me because I would be a distraction. Rude, right!

  11. Cheating? No, I say that it's impossible to cheat when you're talking about dreams of traveling. :)

PEI is awesome. I went there as a tween and the Anne of Green Gables house was super fun. French Canada is also great, but I'm biased because I live there. :)

Also, I had 24 hours in Austria, literally, during a longer vacation in Eastern Europe. Didn't see many of the sites, but had a great time.

Whatever trip you have, I hope you enjoy it! :)

  12. I agree with everyone else, who cares if you cheated as long as I can come along? :o)

Sorry to be by so late in the day, it's just been one of those days, you know?

Anywho...now you have me intrigued. Ohio? Which mission is your son in? I served my ("not-so-glamorous") mission in the Columbus Mission and loved every minute of it! The people were amazing and the whole experience is something I will never forget. Loved it!

Oh and yes...LOVE ALL of your other choices! Definitely going to try to head to Great Britain at some point since my grandmother is from there. :o)

  13. Oh, I love all of your choices! I spent one weekend in Boston and driving along Cape Cod in October, 1981. Eons ago! But I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I've always wanted to go back.

And Europe...well, you read mine and know how much I want to go there!

In all those years, I haven't visited my son there...mainly I was tied up in work, etc. Now, it's budgeting....But he has come back to visit here a few times, occasionally for 6 mos. or so. But the last time was three years ago!

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  14. What a nice surprise to see that you would love to visit my area. I live in New England, RI the smallest state and home to the Newport Mansions. Stop by for coffee on your trip.

  15. A month in Great Britain would be awesome! I'd love it! Though I don't know if they could get me to leave after that ;)

  16. Lisa: Dreaming big is the best!

Gwen: Okay, you can come! :)

Boy Mom: What's Jenny going to be doing in Oregon that you will distract her from? Sounds suspicious to me! But it sure sounds fun. The Oregon coast is one of my favorite places I've been.

Melissa: Well I hope to truly experience both places some day.

1stdaughter: My son is in Columbus, Spanish speaking! Cool, huh. Meeting lots of very interesting people.

Laurel-Rain: Cape Cod sounds heavenly. I hope you get to go to Europe some day... soon!

CMash: Yes, New England, all of it, seems like it would be so beautiful and peaceful.

Crystal: I know! Me either! (About leaving....) But we dream about this all the time.
