The Sunday Salon: Pondering the Next Book.... again

Why is it that on Sunday, when it's time to do A Sunday Salon post and discuss what I'm reading, I'm always between books and trying to decide what's next?

I finished The Blind Assassin yesterday morning, laying in bed, listening to the rain beat down on the roof. Perfect reading conditions! Look for a review on that one soon.

Now I need to read something a little lighter. And there's always the dilemma of do I read something from a challenge list? Or do I just read whatever feels good? Or do I read a library book sitting here in the pile?

Here's some I'm debating on:

Fablehaven #2 by Brandon Mull
The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean
The Forever King by Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy
The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski
The Painted Veil by Somerset Maugham
Someone Like You or Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

So, what say you? Which one needs to rise to the top? Or do you suggest I skip ALL of these and read something else entirely?

  1. I am very anxious to read your review of the Blind Assassin, as that has been on my TBR list for a while.

I am afraid that I cannot help you with your next choice as I have not read a single one of the books :)

Hope the prom was extra-special and the rain did not dampen any spirits..

  2. I loved The Forever King's take on the Arthurian legend (but then again, I'm a sucker for any Arthurian book that includes a modern setting). I haven't read the rest of the series - I really should get to them soon!

  3. I would vote for anything by Maugham!

Today I am reading The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Happy reading!

  4. Molly: I'm going to write that review RIGHT NOW! :) AND post a prom picture!

Ms. Bookish: I think you've convinced me... The Forever King is going to be next!

Frances: WAIT... maybe the Maugham will be next!

  6. What a beautiful dress!

I'm thinking The Painted Veil, mostly because I've been circling it myself.

  7. That happens to me too, Suey! :-)

I haven't yet read your review of The Blind Assassin, but I will be right over to do so.

What did you end up deciding to read?

  8. Something lighter? The Forever King or maybe Fablehaven #2 would be my suggestion. Of the titles that I recognize the others are are "heavy".

  9. Kim and Bybee: Thanks! (regarding prom comments) and I'm going back and forth between the Fablehaven and The Painted Veil except....

Literary Feline:.... I got a blog tour book in the mail yesterday, so I think I'll just read THAT one! :)

Gavin: Even as I was writing up this list, I thought... hmmmm... not very many "light" ones in this bunch!
