The Sunday Salon: My Quest to Read The Amazing Adventures of.....

My big main reading goal for today's Sunday Salon was to get going, once and for all, on The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. This book, if I ever manage to read it, would count for THREE different challenges! (Awards, TBR and Pulitzer) I tried to get into it a long while back and only made it to chapter 2. Today, I did much better! I made it Part Two, chapter two!

So I think I can say, I'm officially into it. However, about that time, I got sidetracked, and ended up on the computer and listening to music, and moping around the house.

While on the computer I finally signed up to be part of the Book Blog Ning thing. Check that out
here.

And hey! I just passed my 300th post! Does that deserve some hoopla and fanfare? YEAH ME!

Oh, and let me just take this opportunity to beg yet again for you to
check out my Farworld post and comment for a chance to win this great YA fantasy book.

Also, as part of my Sunday Salon post I thought it would be fun to list "what the family is reading."

What The Family Is Reading:

The Mr: almost done with Oil by Upton Sinclair
Bud (18 year old son): working on Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer... shhhh... don't tell anyone!
JJ (16 year old daughter): finally finished Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer... now we can finally talk about it around here
Moder (13 year old son): finished The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan today and loved it.
Toto (9 year old daughter): reading The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

  1. My husband enjoyed reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I do plan to read it one of these days--probably not very soon though. Haha I am glad you are finally enjoying it.

Congratulations on passing your 300th post! That's wonderful and definitely deserves recognition. Are you going to do anything to celebrate? Maybe treat yourself to a new book?

I am refraining from reading any reviews about Far World right now since I am reading the book myself. I look forward to checking out your review once I'm done and have my review written.

I love your addition of what your family is reading! It must be great to have a house full of readers.

    Have a great week!

  2. My 10 year old just read "Despereaux" this week and loved it! She's had the book on her shelf for about a year and finally decided to read it- she finished it in 2 days. You'll have to tell me what Toto thought of it.

Oh, and here's to lots of hoopla and fanfare! WOO HOO a toast to you!! Clink, clink (champagne glasses- use your imagination!!)

  4. Congratulations on your 300th post. I only have about half of that. :(

And also congratulations on getting so much reading done yesterday. I actually got some reading done myself for a change (wasn't all napping and watching movies as other Sundays).

Welcome to Book Blogs on Ning. I'll have to check your page out over there too. See you around, I'm sure.

  5. I've had Kavalier and Clay on my stacks for what feels like ages, and every single friend I have whose read it says I'll love it. I guess I should just dive in already!

  6. For what my family is reading:

I'm working on Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot and Death Masks by Jim Butcher.

My husband is between books, which means he's reading Bill James's Historical Baseball Abstract (or something like that-a GIANT green book of tiny print full of Baseball stats.)

The Pirate is reading Popcorn and Milk and Cookies by Frank Asche? (Something like that- both from my youth, both my old copies). I think he's trying to figure out reading, if his questions are any indication (What word is this one?)

The Bug is reading- well, the bug can't read. But I'm thinking it's about time to start him on Goodnight Moon.

  7. Literary Feline: I'll be looking forward to reading what you think about Farworld.

LisaMM: Thanks for the 300th "celebration"!

So far, my daughter seem to love the book, but she's going to take her time reading it I'm thinking.

Sally: Sometimes we appear to be a reading family, and other times, not so much.

Reading Fool: Thanks for the congrats! And thanks for coming to say at the Book Blog Ning!

Andi: I'm the exact same way about The Amazing Adventures. Everyone says it's wonderful. So it must be, right?

Lisa: AH!! Milk and Cookies! My now nearly 19 year old also loved that book. I know I've still got it around here somewhere....
