Booking Through Thursday: Definition
Booking Through Thursday
What, in your opinion, is the definition of a “reader.” A person who indiscriminately reads everything in sight? A person who reads BOOKS? A person who reads, period, no matter what it is? … Or, more specific? Like the specific person who’s reading something you wrote?
If someone were to say to me, "I'm a reader" it would make me think that they actively pursue the hobby of reading. They seek out things to read. They enjoy reading and make time to read. It wouldn't necessarily matter what they're reading, but that they want to read things and consciously find and look for things to read. If a person says to me "I don't have time to read" (and I hear this a lot) I would consider them to not be a reader, at least for that moment in their life. A reader reads, busy or not. Make sense? Or am I completely off?
I agree. If someone says I don't have time to read, I always think- I bet you'd have time if you turned off the tv in the evening. That's how I "found" time.
ReplyDeleteexactly, lisamm. Isn't there some kind of "Turn off the TV and read" day, even? I'd have to look into that, but I'm pretty sure there is. Shoot, I wish I was a speedreader with a photographic memory! Maybe I could get through Mt. TBR faster, then!
ReplyDeletethat is what I had to do. after graduating from university as a spanish lit major, with a minor in english lit I could not even bare the idea of picking up a book for about 2 years after.....I am glad I got back into it!!
ReplyDeleteyes, the TV. shoot it.
I'll have to be completely unoriginal and further the "TV Off/Brain On" notion.
ReplyDeleteThere are times where legitimately you may be too busy to read (preparing for a funeral or having a newborn baby, for instance), which is too sad, because reading brings so much joy!
I'm with you, on the definition of a "reader." It's all about the attitude of wanting to read, no matter the material. Yeah!
Right, Michelle, I have had times in my life when I did not read. Reading takes concentration. When a funeral is being planned, you cannot focus on anything else.
ReplyDeleteFortunately, books always wait.
Thanks for the comment. Our answers are very similar. Actually, now that I look around, most of the answers are very similar. I guess that's why we're all here, eh? :o)
ReplyDelete(Also, my url is http://thebluestockings.com, but I can't post under that name here because of your settings.)
I for sure agree that there are times when people who consider themselves readers aren't reading much. But then there's those people who obviously don't consider themselves readers because they NEVER find the time... even when life is on a more even keel.
ReplyDelete(Bluestockings... I'll see what I can do about the settings. I have no idea about these things.)
Makes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree. We all have to make time, no matter the stage of life we're in.
