This week for our top ten lists we get to choose a genre and list our favorite characters in that genre. I could pick so many different ones! But I've chosen to go with:
Top Ten Characters in YA Contemporary
1. Joe Fontaine in The Sky is Everywhere Jandy Nelson
2. Antsy in Antsy Does Time by Neal Shusterman
3. Cricket in Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
4. Ed Kennedy in I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
5. Michael in The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
6. Owen Armstrong from Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
7. Stargirl in Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
8. Gideon in My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters by Sydney Salter
9. Hazel in The Fault in our Stars by John Green
10. Sean Griswold in Sean Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt
Wow, this has made me realize how many characters I love in YA are actually in fantasy books! Whew. Harder than I thought it would be to come up with this list! How'd you do with your list?

I loved Hazel in Fault of our Stars also. I felt she was a strong character and passed along a positive message.
ReplyDeleteHillary: Yep, I think so too!
DeleteI agree 4,5, and 10! Excellent choices! I haven't read the others.
ReplyDeleteKami: Ah, which one will you read next? :)
DeleteJoe Fontaine is perfect! He was such a great character.
ReplyDeleteLisa: One of my all time faves for sure.
DeleteI love your genre choice and I'll trust your picks on your characters. I'm not familiar with any of them. Have a nice day. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteKelley: You'll have to read one!
DeleteI definitely would have picked fantasy if I'd done this week's TTT - I have too many fantasy favorites. But, instead I did the topic from several weeks ago, because that's pretty indicative of what my life is like right now. Several weeks behind.
ReplyDeleteMelissa: I was trying to be a bit different, but it seems tons picked this genre today!
DeleteOh wow! I wouldn't have guessed you would've gone with contemporaries. :D Way to surprise me!
ReplyDeleteI love Cricket too. I need to reread Lola so I can read him again. I also loved Lola's dads!
Sadly, I haven't read any of the other books on your list. I need to step up my game in the contemporary realm.

DeleteI just ordered Lola and the Boy Next Door, I can't wait until it arrives! And Stargirl was a very cool character, good choices!
ReplyDeleteKit: Yay! You are going to love it!
DeleteSeriously, Cricket is like my favorite character in Lola! I didn't think I could like Cricket more than St. Clair . . . but I did. I loved how sweet her was.
